I am getting high 18's for MPG with a mix of city, country two-lane, and highway. All stock and I have 13,xxx miles on the truck.

Can they make his left leg unproportionally larger so it looks like he drives a manual? He will curse his existence every time he looks in the mirror or gets asked if he skips leg day at the gym.

I think tires cant be underestimated in the effect on mpg. This plus speed.

Ive been getting 19.5 to 21 tank averages, normal driving with stock sport tires and wheels. Ive double checked the display 3 or 4 times with math during fill ups, its spot on. I never drive over 70mph, normally 55 to 65.

Im also going narrower and LRR when the time comes. Mich LTX 255/65-17 most likley.

If agressive AT tires are needed to get you in and out of places I suppose thats worth it over getting stuck. But damn, wonder how many people just waste their money for having the look of meaty tires.

Any of you guys getting a weird "buck" or jolt when slowing down? It seems to be most noticeable in 2nd, but i feel it in 3rd+ as well if I'm slowing down. If I slow down to where RPM's are at about 1000-1500, somewhere in there, there is a jolt or a buck like i got lightly rear-ended. It is only one jolt, but it is incredibly annoying, especially since it happens almost every time I am slowing down to make a turn in 2nd. Also, say, when I'm slowing down in traffic. It does not do it if the truck is in neutral, but that isn't an option for me when I'm making a turn. Happens whether or not the brakes are being applied.

21.7 was exactly what I averaged in my 6/M. I think I hit 23 briefly on a highway drive once.

Not sure where you live but I can assure you if you ever leave the pavement in Nevada the stock tires are worthless. I also carry two spares because even with good tires two flats happen.

1000RPM seems a bit low to me? So two questions: is it only second gear? Or is it only at 1000rpm?

I feel the same way. I always liked the look of the Tacoma, but the main reason I got it was because they offer an MT with the V6. If they only offered AT, I probably would have gone with a Tundra for that sweet and reliable powertrain. If MT is offered, I always go that route. If not, I go for bigger engine and more power.

When a manufacturer has a model that is only offered with an automatic transmission...it is dead to me. No exceptions.

Yea it's pretty rad, haven't really had the chance to use it all that much yet. Haven't driven a 3rd gen MT but they have knobs to engage 4x4 right?

It generally happens somewhere between 1500 and 1000 RPM. The only time I will ever be at 1000 RPM is if I'm in say 2nd or 3rd gear coming up to a stop and I push the clutch in. That's why I say I notice most in 2nd because the only time I'm really at that low of an RPM is when I'm cruising along in traffic in 2nd or slowing down enough in 2nd to make a turn.

But yeah, slowing down either with the brake or pure engine braking and once it gets to that lower RPM range, somewhere in there a jump/skip/buck happens and it really throws me off. It feels like something is getting bound up, building up energy and then released causing a momentum transfer/change in acceleration.

I don't know if I could pick it up on camera very well since it is more of a feeling, but I'll see if I can think of something

I'm not 100% convinced it is axle wrap either since it will happen even if I let the engine do all the braking and slow me down on a straight away. If that is causing axle wrap I have the weakest leaf springs known to man.
