Just to restate this upgrade will most likely not work on 16" wheels; need 17" or above as the rotors are from a 17" wheel on a 4 runner

My wife has a Sport and a 16" wheel will definitely not clear her brakes.

    Hey Guys,
I'm looking for a pair of OEM disc dust covers/backing plates (Gen2) that are in good condition. (Mine are rusted out bc of NYS saltly roads.) If anyone here that's done this upgrade has a set laying around, please let me know!
    Thanks, Mike

Quick question? Will the part stores take our Tacoma "13WG" calipers as core exchange for the Lexus "13WH" caliper?

I bet the majority of employees behind the counter at AutoZone, Oreillys, and Advance don't know the difference between any caliper

EDIT: before anyone complains, I worked at Advance for 2 years after high school, I was amazed at just how little the majority of the people knew up there

This is happening for my truck. I've always hated the negative effects big tires cause on brakes and gear ratios. This mod being composed of all OEM parts makes this a no brainer.

Go with the 2012+ T4R brakes. 14WL brakes (bigger than the ones in this thread). I just rebuilt a set i got used on eBay, stop tech slotted rotors and EBC green stuff pads as well

Thanks, Im not sure I ever saw a wrecking yard while I was stationed at DM, but if you can, I suggest going to a wrecking yard to pull the dust shields and calipers. You'll save more money that way, plus probably find more "have to have" parts while you're there

What if any clearance and/or compatibility issues did you have running these parts? Any cutting of the dust shield? I assume it only fits in a 17" rim? etc...

    Thanks

I myself have not installed any of these parts yet. Another member installed all of these parts and is running 17" SCS wheels and everything clears fine, I doubt anything smaller would clear, also the newer T4R rotors are a good bit bigger (upgrade) so that is why you'll need the T4R dust shields or just remove them all together, either way. @Low Range Off-Road also puts these kits together, if you don't want to rebuild anything or sand/paint, they sell these as a kit basically.

But I do know that these clear the SCS 17" RAY10s which is what I have as well.

One more quick question because I am really good at confusing myself. IN your parts list you mentioned 14WL calipers but this thread calls them 14WA; was that a typo or are they different?

    Hello 4x4taco09,
sorry but I'm a newb to brake modification and I do not have a rotor warping issue. I'm just interested in sharper, more responsive brakes. I'm starting to pack on more pounds to my truck and have a heavy foot; also just compared to my wife's 01' bmw x5, oem taco brakes suck. Considering my personal goals do you think your mod is a better fit for me than craigFLA's? If so, simply why? I think others like me might benefit from the added info.

Hats off to both craigFLA and 4x4taco09!!! Awesome work gentlemen.

As an engineer I love to upgrade and love to do it myself. The 2nd Gen tacos are just the best starting point.
