ECT helps with towing, but I have not found any lag at all with it off.

I experienced this phenomenon when I test drove a different '17 Tacoma. It was a bit unsettling.

I have not replicated it in the second truck (which I bought).

So I had to try your test out, and you are right,i even looked in the rear/side mirrors swearing there really was a parachute back there that sucked all the power away. I have been using the ECT for a few days now,and I thought well there goes my gas mileage, but now I am getting 2mpg more!

Interesting, mine did this a few times early on but it stopped after the 3000 mile mark. Cant get it to do it again. Not sure but it seems the tranny was in a learning mode at the time.

I have a 2017 Tacoma occasionally it hesitates when I pull out in traffic and get on it. Scares the hell out of me because I need it
to get up and go. It doesn't do it all the time

Was searching for this because, I’m coming up on the end of my factory warranty and wanted to make sure i didn’t need to do anything.
I will say the ECT button helps a lot!
I ended up buying a sprint booster which seems to have alleviated the problem.

Also seems to have eased the problem a bit with searching for the right gear when my cruise is set and on an incline.
Only have had a small sample of this back and forth from work, so it could be I’m honeymoon phase with it............but it is a nice addition ;-)

I have this video up in another thread, but thought I would post it here in case it helps someone Identify their issue. This has nothing to do with traction control or any of the other theories out there. No one has a clue yet as to what is causing this and as of today Toyota does not have fix.

You shouldn't have to get in your truck and turn the traction control off every time you drive. The traction control is not linked to the hesitation. Glad it's running better for you though.

I seem to have this problem also but not from a stop. It happens when it’s in 2nd gear. It hesitates and then the power kicks in jerking the entire truck. It doesn’t do it with the ECT on though. I’ve had it less than a week and already wish I could default the ECT on always. Lol. I would think that it would already have the new update done. I might take it to check though. Love everything else about it.

Mine does this with ECT on, ECT off, Traction control on, Traction control off, AC on, AC off..... I've run it through every conceivable variation to try get to the bottom of it, including various octanes(which I have found that the truck without a doubt runs better on 91). I currently have an open case with Toyota Corporate and they have admitted that there is an issue and they are working on a solution to the problem.... time will tell

You SURE you're not just letting off the gas?? I mean I could make a video just like this problems or not, just film myself accelerating to 15mph then just going off throttle and letting the truck slow down. Or is there a smaller hesitation you're trying to illustrate that I'm missing??

I have a hard time believing your truck is just completely dying like that and Toyota not fixing it...

Mine has not died-- but long hesitation no power dead in water from stop signs--- coasted side of hwy twice, other 4 times it came back to life after seconds-- people behind you not impressed--- there is nothing-- : master warning comes on: ( this is mine-- after 7 months of fine) other than surging--small hesitations shifts constantly) can live with all that. 3 appointments at dealership to check for code-== it read none so say nothing wrong. Said call Texas if problem or another dealership---- am not driving 2 1/2 hrs away to check for a code. They sure took the check tho!!!! Texas told me several times ( I have a case #) that not heard of this! Hope all that do have issue calls so they will try figure it out. ( Cannot duplicate it) No way. Dealership does not care.

I am not letting of gas--- when you pull out from a stop sign you are going and getting out of way.

Why would I make a video of not being sure if I was taking my whole entire foot off the gas 3 times in a row then post it for input of why it was hesitating?

This is from flooring it and keeping it floored and it cuts out 2 to 3 times at 1500 rpms then goes. I've had it at Toyota 3 times and they have no clue. I have a case open as well.

Here is another video I made the other day. Each time you see the camera bump is when it hesitates. Some days it does this all day. Other days it don't do it at all.
