New key & lock fob from dealer??

anyone know how much it usually is from the dealer to get another key and lock fob made? My 14' only had one when I bought it and really want that extra one

 

Not sure on price, but do know it can be done for about half, at least for my 13. They show a blank chipped key for the 13, but not the 14, might be a change, maybe not. Worth a call. A lock smith can cut and program the key, if you have proof of ownership on you. They have used and new key fobs, as well as instructions how to pair with the truck.

This,and it will cost you less than half what a dealer wants for the same job and parts.I got a used key fob from the above site for $40 and it works perfect and comes with the program instructions.East peasy

 

At my local dealership it's around $150 total.

 

I bought a blank key and key fob on eBay for $20. I programmed the fob myself, it was easy (use the above link or Google how to program Tacoma fob and several links will come up).
As for getting the key cut, different dealers charge different prices, so call around. I called 3 Toyota dealerships and got 3 different prices. I ended up paying $48 just to have the key cut & programmed. I don't remember the cost of a blank key at the stealership, but it was significantly more than eBay. Hope that helps.

Yeah I may email that company and see why their keys only go up to 13's. I'm hoping my 14' isn't diff and have to go thru dealer!

From a truth in advertising perspective, I've had numerous 1st Gen keys cut at the same dealership and they ALWAYS charged me. When I called about the 2nd Gen key, they said they'd cut it for free but that it wouldn't work without programming by the Service Dept. I told them that wouldn't be necessary, but I don't think they believed me. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure they figured they'd make money when I came back because the key wouldn't work without programming. Thanks to the cable and software I bought, programming by THEM really wasn't necessary...

 

You are probably exactly right.

 

Hopefully the key you have is the master/main key...

Fob from my 07 works on my 10. Just had to do the programming.
