Well about 8 sec on google shows a boatload of company make tunes for the frs/brz/86, more than 2 make them for the is350/gs350 and i ended my google search there. Can be done. Your 1 off xa build sounds like its well 1 off. Probably easier to run standalone than spend all the time and money cracking an ecu to flash all of 1 vehicle. Key is demand. There are roughly a gazillion frs out there. Every person driving one cares about performance to some extent. So that is a very large market to make money. A lot of tacoma owners wouldnt pay 600 for a flash that may knock 2/10 of a second to 60 at the cost of low end torque. So that ecu flash isnt a priority. But i think ov tuning underestimated the demand for a taco flash as i think their inbox was destroyed when they posted they are actively working on one.

Tldr: it can/will be done with enough time and money.

Yeah no way of reflashing the Tacoma ecu that I know of.
Would run way better if I could fully tune it like my FRS....... Thankfully the FRS must use the Subaru ecu...

But if any knows of how to reflash the ecu send me the info.....

This is a huge topic in the Subaru world. Especially with the 2.0 turbo found in the WRX and my Forester XT. There is plenty of info out there that the engines produce larger amounts of power with 93 octane vs 87. In California, we are limited to 91 and unless we buy race fuel, we are not going to see the benefit in performance of these engines. I would imagine that the Tacoma v6 is going to have similar results. Still without dyno results, its all speculative. I'm just waiting (which it will never happen) for a tuner to be released.

It's not the tuner, it's the tools. Most tool mfgs don't tune cars and VERY, VERY rarely does a tuner make tools he uses. At least that's the way in the Euro car tuning market. So what I mean by the it's not the tuner it's the tools is simple. There is not money in the this platform, therefore, no tool mfgs are racing to crack the ecu and protect the checksum and rsa for it. Unless it's for a something that can be fun like a turbo or supercharged car with the same ecu. Chances are it has been done long ago but the tuners are trying to develop seomething.

I admit I know jack about the Atkinson cycle and how the ecu controls it. But CMDtech is the best most stable and flexible tool developer in the tuning black market. That being said, if there is money to be made, they'd develop the protocols over the weekend and tuners could tune. They probably can now.

Toyota just needs to add another engine option and we'll be good to go......

    1UR-FE[edit]
The 1UR-FE is based on the 1UR-FSE but lacks the D4-S direct injection technology. Originally used for Lexus vehicles in the Middle East, it was introduced in 2010 in other markets to replace the 2UZ-FE engine in truck and SUV applications. This engine produces 347 hp (259 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 46.9 kg·m (460 N·m; 339 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm in the Lexus GS and LS. For the Toyota Land Cruiser the engine produces 304 hp (227 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 44.8 kg·m (439 N·m; 324 lb·ft) at 3,400 rpm.

Toyota is not going to put a V8 into the Tacoma. You will see a diesel option before you will ever see a V8.

Has anyone called a local Toyota tuner to see if they'd tune our Tacos? I'm sure if they can tune an 86, they could tune these trucks.

If they would have made it a 4.0 that's what we would have.

It took the IS-F tuners almost 9 years to crack the Toyota ECU. I wouldn't hold my breath on this engine. FR-S was "easier" due to the demand and correlation to Subaru. Toyota doesn't like having ECU's unlocked.

Why do you say that? Both quotes are on the Tacoma section.
