OK guys... these boards are OEM...they are the same as the Gen2's.... aluminum and plastic covered.. I had them on my 2006 for 10 yrs... looked new when traded her in....

Plastic covering matches the box top plastic pattern.

They stick out enough to take most door hits, but higher vehicles maybe not....

They are GREAT for washing/waxing the roof of the truck.... easy to walk on.

ACREYMAN... I found that THE only drawback with these is that if you are NOT careful...they will rub the back of your pantleg, but I've overcome that issue with the proper dismount method.....Turn...foot on board...scooch outward a bit...then step out...!! I'm 5'-11" and I love 'em.

Thes ARE aluminum...just like the 2Gen's.... they are the same board.

EDIT.... They DO protect the bottom of the truck VERY well.... My '06 looked like new after 10 yrs. Lots of gravel rds too.. Need flaps as well..!!

For clarity, the ones @over60 have are different from the new cast aluminum ones I have. The new ones have no plastic and are all metal except the finish. There's also a substantial price difference too.

As to protection, this pic shows how far out they extend.

Those look nice... I've never seen or heard of them... Are they new for 2016..??
I don't think mine stick out quite that far, but I'll check tomorrow..!

Yes, they were new for 2016 and supposedly the replacement for the previous version that you have. Price jumped quite a bit too. Kinda hurt when I bought them (shop around), but really like them so I got over it. :)

See post #30 for part number.

Oh and yes running boards kick azz when washing the truck or messing with roof racks when you're not Dikembe Mutombo.

I was quoted $365 CAD + tax for the Gen 2 version, from Cochrane Toyota in Alberta, back in the fall when I was looking around. The Gen 3 cast aluminum boards sell for over $600 US I believe. I ended up buying a used set of Toyota Predator steps in USA, because they are not available in Canada.

$365 CDN is a good price... Dealer price is around $500 CDN...

Not a big fan of those cast aluminum boards. Every time you exit the truck they seem to always catch the back side of your pant leg since they extrude so far. I can see how they'd protect from door dings though.

Odd, I never catch my pants legs on them. Not sure why you had that issue. *shrug*

As for looks, I really like them and have received compliments from others. Each to their own I guess. Glad you were able to find ones for your truck that you liked.

No worries. There's lots of stuff other people put on their trucks that aren't my style, so it's only fair that someone else may not like the stuff I put on mine. :)

As for pants legs -- In the past I've had a Wrangler that had steps (door ding protection again) and got in the habit of getting past them when exiting. I suspect that muscle memory just translated over as I don't really think about it, and I'm of pretty average height. Not really sure why it's not an issue for me, but I can see how it could be for others.

More specifically, the gen2 is plastic on a metal frame. gen3 is a single piece cast aluminum bolted to the steel mounting brackets.

*weight I don't remember. I had no trouble installing them solo in my driveway. They have some substance but don't require a bodybuilder's help.

In addition to the above photo I have these gen3 photos handy (height is on stock OR suspension & tires):

The cast aluminum Gen 3 boards weigh 52lbs combined.
The Gen 2 DC boards weigh in at 41lbs.
    Gen 2 AC weigh 34lbs,

Yes, proper slider/steps are the ultimate option... Though $1200+ delivered starts to get pretty spendy if you don't truly need sliders. :)

Hey gpb.... I just checked my boards in the same way you did with the square..... Mine come out to that mark on your boards, in the pic. That's about 1 3/4", so yours do give way more door ding protection, but would be harder to step over on exiting... Nice boards though.

Yes, in the below picture the level is against the outermost part of the closed door and the inside edge of the square is aligned with the inside edge of the level, thus measuring the distance the boards extend past the widest part of the door.

Granted it's not perfect since car door edges can have weird shapes, but I do think it's pretty decent protection.

Does anyone have anymore pictures of the gen 2 running boards? I'm very intrigued about these now.

How far do the gen 2 stick out?

The gen 2 don't stick out nearly as much as the cast aluminum boards. The cast will protect from door dings, the gen 2 will not.
