I like what you did with the steering shaft  Looks really cool. I wish I had the ability to make stuff on the fly like that.

Are you guys talking about adding hydro assist to a steering rack on an IFS? Is that even possible? I've never seen it :confused:

I don't think it's possible. If not, it would have been done already.

BTW, I finally got my rear diff shipped out to ecgs today. It took awhile because they used to get a special shipping rate for 3rds to hawaii. $50 each way. Apparently they lost that deal so they were trying to figure out another way. So if you use their FedEx 2nd day air shipping, it's $185 per trip. You may be able to find a cheaper way if you send it yourself tho. Hopefully they can work something out with UPS or something...
I'm sending my diff, my nitro gears and the master install kit, so I'm only paying labor and shipping, and it's still gonna be $600

    Shit's expensive

So there's absolutely nobody over there that can do the work? Also, there are toyota axle builders on the west coast as well. ZUK is in AZ, best toyota gear installer there is IMHO. Not sure if that would have made a difference in price - assuming that shipping all the way to/from the east coast is more $$$$

I think 4wp can, and also Maui off road, but I don't trust either of them. My friend @kh7nm had his regeared by MOR and apparently they didn't put threadlock on the ring bolts and they fell out on the highway and blew up his diff. I'm sure there are lots of places between Hawaii and North Carolina that can do a regear, but ECGS is the only one I hear a lot about and has a great reputation. I'd rather pay $600 to have ECGS do it and know its done right. Peace of mind.
Besides, I have already paid thousands and thousands of dollars on this build on shipping alone :bananadead:

Ahhh, I see. Well, that makes sense. Peace of mind is important, and many times is better to go with people that you know and have done business with in the past.

I imagine everything costs a lot of money for shipping to/from your location:eek:

Got a new steering cooler from PSC, and all the lines and fittings I need, plus some spares for the trail. Got the cooler mounted, and I had to pull the headlight to drill some holes. The cool thing is I figured out how to pull the headlights without removing the bumper. Came out easy!
    IMG_2398.jpg IMG_2399.jpg
    I'd say that's pretty good placement :cool:IMG_2403.jpg
Everything runs nicely up hill from the steering box up to the cooler, then up to the reservoir. And the cooler is mounted rock solid.

Steering cooler is pretty cool, haven't seen one of those before. Is that something common?

it is common on SAS rigs with big tires.

Thanks, I've probably never noticed it, because it's behind the grill or hidden more or less. Forgive me, I am a rookie. :D

This type is common on trucks with hydro assist or full hydro.

    :edit:

We are all always learning haha

Big tires and and challenging terrain really put a lot of stress on the steering system. the fluid can get extremely hot which is no bueno. So the cooler helps keep the temperatures in check. Very similar idea to adding a cooler to auto trannies when you tow, or do a lot wheeling with bigger tires, etc. Otherwise the auto tranny can over heat!
