Dont forget the lexus are tuned for higher octane that wouldnt fly with most taco owners. I love not having to buy expensive gas anymore.

I don't think 91 is available in many areas of the country.

Re-read the last part of what he said. He has bought "expensive" gas before, therefore has access to it. Hence, my reply of $6 more a tank and such.

Latest news is that it's going to be what the 4th gen looks like.

Before the 3rd gen came out people were saying the A-Bat was going to be the new Tacoma but don't believe it for one minute. My source at Toyota, Mike S....er...too obvious...M. Sweers. said Toyota wants to skip a generation before introducing the A-Bat.

We have a 2016 Honda Odyssey with a 3.5 liter V6 rated at 250 HP and 250 ft/lb of torque approximately. It has a 6 speed AT transmission. It weighs approximately the same as my 4x4 DC Tacoma. It absolutely crushes my Tacoma in engine/transmission driving experience. Shifting, power delivery on the bottom/mid/top and MPG (yes, I know, aerodynamics and 4x4...still, it shouldn't be 50%+ better). I believe the Tacoma engine/transmission is capable (see it's performance in other cars), I just think the software in the Tacoma that controls it all was really underdeveloped. Hopefully Toyota will continue working on new "tunes" and some of the aftermarket "tune" companies will sort it out as well...so long as they understand that tuning this engine for performance in a truck is different than tuning it for performance in Lexus sport sedan.

Where have you been? OVTune has already released the Tacoma tune and is working in a 2nd update already.

Trust me, I'm following that thread like a hawk. OV has alot of experience tuning this motor for sportscar/sedan applications so I'm letting the others be guinea pigs for now. It's looking very promising for sure and it's one of the main reasons I haven't traded my Tacoma for a Tundra yet...I have fingers crossed that it will be sorted out.

So you get 30ish mpg out of your odyssey?

you are making the assumption you know what I get for mileage on my Tacoma...which is the problem child in this comparison. :)

Here is what I get based on hand calculations between fill-ups:

    Tacoma City/HWY 14/19

    Odyssey 20/29

That's some pretty rough mpg from the Tacoma. I was just going off the low end 18 city EPA and my own experience of getting 20-21 mpg out of my Tacoma to figure what you were getting out of your van. I was just curious because my wife and I are looking at an odyssey minivan and my brothers 2011 odyssey gets about 22 or so mpg.

Are those numbers at the wheel or at the crank?
If they are at the wheel, obviously you're gonna have less drivetrain hp lost in a fwd, which the Camry is. But that wouldn't explain the highlander, which is AWD....
    Just throwing that out there.

Yes, I agree...I do mostly city driving (75/25) and I'm getting combined 15-16 MPG right now...I bought the Tacoma with hopes of getting at least the city rating (18) for my combined driving. I was coming from a 2005 Tundra DC 4x4 that got high 12-13 in the city and was getting 15-16 MPG combined. I was trying to decide between a new Tundra (too big) or a new Tacoma (a bit small, I liked the 2005 Tundra DC, it split the difference but I totaled it). The Tundra was a much nicer driver (That engine!) than the Tacoma, but size wise for driving in the city and the light off-roading we like to do in the NOGA mountains, the Tacoma was a better choice. In the end, the MPG difference was a big factor for me....but as it turns out there is not a HUGE discrepency between the two (at least not for my Tacoma).

I get 20/29 on the Odyssey, my wife get's like 17-18/29 with the Odyssey because she is a "on-the-gas or on-the-brakes" driver...which really kills your city MPG. We love our Odyssey though...if you are considering one, be sure to read up about disabling the VCM.

Nearly all manufacture quoted HP/TQ #s are off the crank....I can't think of any of them that quote RW numbers.

My first thought is that the 3 vehicles listed in the OP are in completely different classes with engines tuned to their specific needs. This is just nonsense.

Only $6? It's about $12 extra a tank around here.
