My 2015 Tacoma had the Clutch catch all the way up at the top of the pedal travel which made it a bit of a pain, my 17 is a little bit lower making it much easier and the location of Reverse is no big deal.

    Hey guys-

Just got stationed in Alaska. Have a 2017 TRD Pro with manual.

I'm in Fairbanks, and temps get as low as -50. I've added the block warmer and battery blanket.

I was wondering about the antifreeze and clutch fluid. Should I have to worry about the freeze point?

My other buddies that have Tacomas up here said their trucks did fine.

    Appreciate the help!

    Alex

Sounds like your truck should do fine if you follow what they do.

So I changed my tranny fluid to redline mt90. Ran it for a day and was super smooth. Then today all gears were pretty notch and worse than before my change. I filled all the way up so that it dribbled out so pretty sure I'm good there but curious why this would happen? Was smooth prior to change then smoother after. Now pretty clunky all the way through. ??

Fresh lube feels great. The longer and harder you drive the drier it gets? True for many things in life...

Back when I had my 2000 Tacoma I put Amsoil in the Transmission and it got harder to shift, would not go in 2nd gear when it was cold. I swapped back to regular old gear oil and it was fine again.

    2017 TRD OffRoad V6 manual.
    Another manual fan here.

Old truck is an S-Runner, which only came in a manual. New truck is a TRD OffRoad manual. I've heard that the AT learns and improves over time, but disliked it so much during the test drive that I just couldn't bring myself to get one.

I know the AT models have multiple-terrain select and crawl control, while the MT has A-Trac... I'm interested in any off-road driving tips as that's something I'm new to, and what exactly from a mechanical point of view do the various modes do. The owner's manual isn't especially clear.

this is indeed a great post.

but if you're looking for a short and probably oversimplified answer regarding the difference between the AT's CC and the MT's ATRAC, you could say that the CC system is brake/throttle automated, you just steer, while the ATRAC does most of the same brake modulation stuff but does not automate the throttle like CC does.

if you've never used the CC system it's freaky... you take both feet off the pedals for it to do its thing. you only control the wheel. and that shit can work well, too.

but I'll take the MT any day, of course.
