    Hey peeps!

Any way of using a Go-Pro as a dash Cam? The problem is, you must use the waterproof case to use the adapter to put it on the windshield. (2016-18). The waterproof case blocks the plug to charge it.

Do I cut a little hole through the waterproof case so that I can leave it plugged in all the time? Then it loses it's waterproof, if I take it with me.

Is their a bracket (without the waterproof case) that plugs onto the windshield????

    Anyone have a solution?

    HELP!!!!!! :annoyed:

I’d second the, don’t use your GoPro as a dashcam. Get a dedicated cam you don’t need to continuously remove from the vehicle. If it’s just for multipurpose stuff while on trails, etc, sure but if it’s for everyday traffic use I’d say better off buying a dedicated unit.

Tired of the suction cups that keep coming loose on dash cams. I looked for an adapter that could use the go-pro windshield post, but couldn't find one.

    Can't win!

I use mine as a dash cam. You need "the frame" mount, suction cup, USB charger for the cig lighter. Also a USB cord for charging.

    The frame mount

Keep in mind that the Gopro will not charge if you plug it in before you start recording. Well, my Hero4 won't anyway. You must hit record, wait a few seconds then plug it in. Use the 1.0A port only to charge.

This case would be an option as well. I use it on my motorcycle helmet so that my mic can be hooked to the gopro while riding.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, rear bumper, and skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
you can also mount it to the rearview with the handlebar mount that GOPRO makes.

I will say there are Cons to using a Gopro for a dash cam. Number one being it's not a dash cam. You cannot make out tag numbers unless the lighting is perfect. You can zoom in on the tag once a screenshot is captured but it's blurry. Like @JdevTac said you'll need to keep removing it unless you think it's safe in your window. Not sure it was meant to take blaring sunlight exposure in a hot car over the summer. It's kind of a pain but it's all I have at the moment. I will be purchasing a dedicated dash cam soon. One that last longer that the Russian made piece I previously owned that lasted 3 months or so.

You can also use the Skeleton housing like I use, also with the old style handlebar mount on the rear view mirror.

If you look at my rear view you can see how I set it up.

The handlebar mount is upside down on the rear view mirror and I run the USB cable along the headliner and down the A pillar.
I can take some close-up pics later today if you like.

Incidentally, I use this as a POV cam rather than as a "Dash Cam" because while GoPro makes an excellent action cam, it lacks the functionality of a true dash cam making it a P.I.T.A.!

Too poor to list anything interesting.
When the camera gets hot, it will shut off. Putting it on the dash/windshield offers no air circulation. Just keep that in mind if you decide to go forward.

I think the Skelton case allows plugs to be used, but still uses mounts
