So my stereo in my 2017 SR5 keeps shutting off for about 30 seconds then rebooting, sitting at the Toyota opening screen for about a minute.. then rebooting once again and finally going to the home screen... i got the entire unit replaced by the dealership about 3 weeks ago. But the same exact thing happened again Christmas Eve.. anyone else having this issue? I have a recording of entire reboot/crash of stereo but can’t post it.

Is you're phone paired with the radio when this happens?

I have a 2016 Tacoma Fully Loaded, Sport! I have the larger unit with gps, cd, navigation and entune. I have been in for the last year telling them about the issue. That the audio unit plus my center display on the dash (where the little truck displays when you start the truck) will just all randomly reboot like and show exactly like it does when I start my truck. This happens randomly, when I'm on a call, in the middle of navigation.
But Yes, my phone is always paired with my truck as soon as I start up. Are you thinking the is the issue???? BLACKTACO2042?

There might be a radio update. Also do you have lots of contacts with any funny symbols in the names?

I’m having the same issue with my 2018 TRD Pro. I’ve disconnected my phone and it’s fine now, but what is the fix?

same here. When i dont use the bluetooth on my phone its fine. Was fine for a long time. I almost feel like its the software update on the iphone that caused it but that should mean there are more of us. I have an Xs max

i have the 11 Pro and I figured out that if you don’t sync the contacts it’s fine.

good to know. I will find that setting. What i figured out was that i had to turn my phone off when i started the truck then I turn on the phone and switch to bluetooth and its fine. Works for long trips but so annoying for short trips so i just leave my bluetooth off. Hopefully your fix works until they figure it out

Yeah that sounds really annoying. For me I just unpaired it completely and when I repaired it, I just didn’t let it sync the contacts. It’s been prefect ever since.

I reloaded/added my Iphone 11 to my 2017 Tacoma, this time NOT syncing my contacts...now works great. Thank you all!

Well, what i should have said was I'm now able to make and receive phone calls...still unable to receive text notifications or incoming phone call contact names or use voice activated call feature, which is a royal pain in the you-know-what!
Anyone heard of any updates regarding Apple/Entune fix?

Strange thing, same thing here, decided to upgrade my stereo and went aftermarket. Now it’s happening to the new one. Sounds like wiring to me

Hmmm, Just started do this off/on power cycling thing on my truck this morning. Didn't think it was a wiring loose issue since hitting bumps, acceleration, decelerations didn't trigger the HU from turning OFF/ON.
Just did it randomly while driving and even at stops. No pattern or time frequency noticed. I'll give the BT off and above suggestions a try. My iPhone BT is on and paired automatically to my truck.

My 2019 Limited just started doing the same thing. On/Off, On/Off...over and over again. I finally just turned the radio off! My husband drove it several different times and it didn't do it to him. After a couple of days of this, we figured out that if I disconnect my BT, then there are no issues. We have narrowed it down to the shut off happening when I get push notifications, text messages, etc. Otherwise it works fine. I talked to my dealership this morning and they said that it is a problem specific with iphone 11's. My husband does not have the iphone 11, so I guess that's why it doesn't do it when he drives. So frustrating!

Such a typical pass the buck response from the dealership. I have an old iPhone SE and it was doing the reboot to mine. It stopped doing this when (1) I "Removed" my phone from the BT connections to the Radio. (2)Went through my Contacts list and removed any special characters in the First Name & Last Name fields (ie: -, (), etc..) (3)Repaired my phone again to the Radio. It hasn't rebooted ever since. Give it a shot.

Was having same issue with Entune rebooting and dropping calls (iPhone X). Dealership "fixed" it at least 4 times. Got tired of Entune issues and replaced it with an amazing Kenwood dnx996xr head unit. The aftermarket HU started rebooting as well. Since it was under warranty I swapped it out thinking it was the new HU but now am having the rebooting issue with the replacement Kenwood HU. What happens if someone is making a 911 call and the HU reboots and drops the call?! Very unsafe IMO. I'm thinking it's something with hard wiring and losing power to HU. I see in this posting that someone else is having an issue with an aftermarket HU. Any ideas how to permanently fix this problem?

Dealer did the Entune update on my 15 and fixed that issue.

Did the same as Twize and it worked for me. Just first/last/phone and no restarts. I just don't understand why the dealers are not telling people about this I've had the truck in five times, just about once per month and they never mentioned the contact sync. Plenty of software updates and replacement of the head unit.

My 17 Off-road just started with this problem. After reading several threads I realized the only difference I had made recently was adding “profile photos” to my contacts on my iPhone 11. I deleted the photos then re-added them without the iPhone’s filters and things seem to be working okay. Such a weird bug from Toyota...

@acfilmz Did you ever figure out what the deal was with your Kenwood HU? I put in a DDX9907XR Kenwood HU and it randomly reboots. I have the JBL stereo package and used the T01 datalink from Maestro.
