Bluetooth contacts tab unusable while driving

Hello everyone. I have a 2017 tacoma TRD 4x4 Off Road Access Cab. I have the Entune Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation and App Suite. I have paired my new iPhone 7 Plus to Bluetooth.

Here is what is happening and I am thinking that some of you may know the answer to this dilemma. When I connect my iphone to Bluetooth and am at a stand still/stopped, my phone contacts are highlighted on the touch screen and I am able to touch a friend contact and phone number and phone them. But when I start to drive, the Contact Tab and Dial tab become unhighlighted and turn grey. So I cannot touch the screen with my finger to phone someone. Of course the hands free voice recognition system will take over and I can ask the phone voice system to make the call hands free.

Can someone please tell me why the Contacts and Dial tab on my Contacts touchscreen
becomes not usable when driving but is usable when stopped?

Because they do not want you distracted while driving. Going forward or reverse and looking at the display and pushing tabs can be dangerous. Hope that helps. System disables itself so you have to use the voice control. There are members that have done the navigation any time mod and the backup camera any time mod. Not sure if it can be done for the phone. I never hook mine up to the Bluetooth. I don't care for it.

Like others have said it’s a safety thing. Put the ones you use as favorites and you can scroll through those.

 

the four "quick" contacts on the base screen (lower left corner) should remain highlighted and usable even during motion.

 

Once you are moving, you might be able to use voice commands to pick contacts. I have to do that to dial in meeting numbers while in motion.

 

You can also wire in a switch to trick the head unit into thinking the vehicle is stopped adn then you'll have full access to etune's functions. Search navigation override here for a bunch of threads. A lot of people do this mod at the same time they are installing the anytime backup camera mod and or adding in a front camera, because you pull the entertainment system to access the back for all these types of mods.

The anytime backup camera mod is that you can put in a switch to turn the rear camera on and see what's going on at anytime when not in reverse (it'll work normally too).

 

The lock out was frustrating and caused me to take my eyes off the road too often trying to figure out if I hit the proper button or it if was locked out. So, this has been a good mod for me:

It is also needed for a front camera to work.

 

About a year ago I bought a Backup Camera Anytime and Nav Anytime mod kit from the thread below. I love it. the camera can be used for parking adn the nav anytime can be used by my passenger for typing in an address in the nav or setting Pandora stations. I have OEM style switches not the toggle ones.

It was an easy and fun install.

I find this thread a bit interesting. I have made calls through the head unit touch screen by selecting the Phone app, then scrolling through my Contacts (on my phone, but displayed on the head unit) and then calling the selected Contact, while I am driving (truck is in motion). I have an iPhone 7+.
