Fumoto works like a charm. Not a single drop outside of where I intended the oil to go.

So it's easy for me with a slanted driveway. I just drove onto my ramps at the bottom of the driveway and it gets the truck level and doubles the space below, and gets any mess out of my garage. Quite easy. I have the aluminum canister in reserve, but the next oil change will be by the dealer, and they can deal with it. My asst. service manager is a friend, and he said they haven't broken any of the composite types ever, nor had any trouble with the aluminum versions on the Lexus. Do get the filter wrench with the openings in the side, though. It is nearly impossible to break it using that filter wrench.

Toyota uses 18 ft lbs on the canister, although I used Newton meters with a 3/8 torque wrench I use on my mtn bikes (easier to read):

    PART TIGHTENED N*M KGF*CM FT.*LBF
Oil filter cap assembly x Oil filter bracket 25 255 18
Oil filter drain plug x Oil filter cap assembly 13 133 10
    Oil pan drain plug x No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly 40 408 30

I drag raced in the 60s with Chevys and the 283s all had that that type of canister oil filter, as someone else mentioned here as well.

Went through this yesterday. Spin-on filter from WIX used with adapter is #51348 which is 3.4" tall. Adapter is 1.25" from block flange so total of 4.65". I measured the distance from the block flange to the skid plate on my TRD Sport and it is just under 7", so the TS-101-BK should work with room to spare. There is quite a price difference between the 51348 and the top of the line WIX cartridge so that offsets some of the $200 price tag. I was also told the o-ring on the adapter does not need to be periodically changed so once installed, good to go. Will order one in the next weeks and see.

    Hi,

Someone....had graciously built a 2016 3.5L V6 10K inspection sheet for DIY'ers which I've converted to METRIC for those of us that are stuck with it.

    Cheers Garry

And a good quality canister filter is about half the price of the paper only filter!

Here's a great video on how to change the oil filter on a V-6 2016 Tacoma. I especially like this one because the video is done, slow and meticulous without loud music and by a back yard mechanic like me, showing all the pitfalls you can run into. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNfLLRzAMQc

It was common on US cars in the 40s and 50s, and is used on many European cars--apparently it's making a comeback, convenience be damned...

That explains all the oily smudges and fingerprints all over my skidplate from a recent oil change at the dealer.... Didn't notice it till today....

Well, I'm not gonna crawl under there just to get oil all over my driveway. How much is the oil filter kit anyway....?

If you want to see how easy an oil change can/should be, look at a Jeep Wrangler with the 3.6l Pentastar V6. Very well designed for easy oil changes.

look on the bright side they increased the OCIs from 5k to 10k miles so you can go twice as far before dealing with the mess

It's not really a mess, just takes a little longer than before. I even have an extra housing that i rotate in, its already clean and has the filter element in it so it goes on as fast as a normal spin on.

Yes, of course. That’s what the wrench beside it is for- it clears the valve.

Had to comment here! Owned 7 different JK's and JKU's with the 3.6. The oil filter housing is total junk and many owners had to replace the entire thing. While easy to access, no quality there.
