Hello, has anyone installed this functional hood w/scoop for the 3rd Gen? From RKSport.com located in California. If so I would like to hear about it and see pictures. Thanks

there was someone on here that talked about it, maybe search with a few key words. Not sure if he ever finished, I think he got a bunch of crap, but may have been throwing around his fair share. If I find it, I post up.

It's actually only two people, but they have over half the posts stirring shit.

The first two pages of that thread was bashing on each other. I didn't want to bring that up here. I'm just curious if anyone has installed this RK sport hood on their Taco. If they did, what are their thoughts and would ask them to post pictures. I see that their is an input that goes from the mid hood opening to the air box. If is to be a functional hood scoop, that box would have to be open on top. Currently the air is forced up from inside the passenger's front wheel well into the air box, with this scoop, there would be another access for air to go into the engine. I'm thinking that unless one is an hardcore off-roader, this hood scoop option would be better than installing a snorkel. Just my thoughts.

As you all probably know, the stock (non functioning) 3rd gen TRD Sport hood scoop's plastic insert already extends through the sheet metal of the hood. It seems like all one would need to do is cut the back of it open to make it functional. Has anyone done that - and what are the benefits?

Get some stall strips and stick them to your hood. See if there is even airflow going over where the scoop will be. Last I heard from a toyota rep, the scoops are non functioning because there is no positive pressure in that area of the hood. Makes me think louvers would work to help extract heat though

This will go on forever but typically most people agree, it will just plug up the air filter and possible water intrusion. The hood scoop is for looks and Chevy is the first to actually make one functional on their HD trucks at great expense.

I have the hood installed. It fits pretty well, but the windshield squirters are going to be a pain in the ass. I'm considering my intake options, but if driving I the rain is any indication of air flow over the hood it doesn't look great.. even at 75mph the rain drops don't move. I've driven about 200 miles in the rain the last few days and there is no water accumulation or spotting on my airbox.

    Too few to list.
I'm sorry to say that the placement of the scoop on these trucks will not result into any air ram effect. This is why you don't see rain drops being moved off the hood. The way the truck is shaped, air hits the front grill and up and over the hood to about 1/2 to 3/4 up the windshield. Same is true for 2nd Gen as well.

Some have opened up the scoop to just allow heat to escape when off-roading.

Unfortunately it is all gimmick like throttle body spacer on FI. That scoop would have to be on the very front of the hood to even have some form of ram air function. You've seen the Subaru hood scoops right? Notice the placement, size and height of the scoop. The shape and angle of the front end has a lot do with it as well.

Yea who knows, got the hood cheap, and it looks good. Maybe one day I'll make an air box that seals up to it, to see if there's any real functionality to it.. most likely though, I'll just go on living my life.. my hood scooped taco life.
