    Clearly a total newb here,
But I want to be sure a tacoma 3rd gen V6 can be equipped with some aftermarket trailer brake controller.

    Thank you.

I have a 2nd gen, but I am pretty sure that the 3rd gen has the pigtail in the glove compartment to attach to a brake controller. The other end (at least with 2nd gens) attach to a plug on the left side of the driver under the dash. Hard to see because it is wrapped up with a bunch of other wires.

If your truck has the tow package then there should be a connector behind the kick panel by the drivers left foot. You will need to buy the controller and adapter cable. I think the late model Tundra cable is the correct one. Once you have the adapter cable it's just plug and play.

I can put a brake controller on a 60s Volkswagen bug. I can do it on a Harley motorcycle. So yeah, you can do it on your taco.

If you have the tow package you will have a connector under the dash. If not you will have to splice into truck wiring and run wires front to back.

I did this last week on my 2018 OR. It has the towing package, so has a 7pin/4pin combo plug already installed on the rear bumper. All I needed was the the harness for the controller that works with the pre-wired factory plug. Mine was actually marked for Tundra. It is literally plug and play. Removing and replacing the kick plate covering the plug was the hardest part, and even that was simple.

I just put one in my 2016 really easy. Just have to find a good place to mount it. I want to put in the cubby left of the wheel.

Tekonsha P3 with wiring adapter part 3017. Plugs right into the connector in the harness. Easy peasy.

I went to a local supplier and bought this:

    https://www.curtmfg.com/part/51110

$55 canuck bucks. It works fine and I can spend my money elsewhere. The P3's around here cost $150 and up.

Thank you both for your responses. I'll check my local Rack store and maybe even Uhaul before I order online.

I know it's early, but any feedback on the unit yet?

It has power. But haven’t got the trailer yet. I’ll make a post after I actually use it. Lol

I mounted mine beneath the left console, below the cubby section, directly to the lower dash.
