As much as I love my new TRD Pro, I have to admit the transmission is clunky.
Going up hill at 65 on a highway sends the gearing into panic! RPMs go as high as 5,500.

I'm guessing the transmission is shifting down to third when I hit the hill. When I give it gas, the vehicle gets confused, remaining in what appears to be third gear, and revving way too high.

Will make the service department aware of it during first service visit; maybe it's a simple software update - I hope.

Around town, though, it's bad ass.....

Pretty normal from what I've heard. The auto likes to maintain cruising speed at all costs.

No issues with mine. Very smooth shifting. If it wasn't for the exhaust noise I wouldn't know it shifted.

I have a 2018 and it definitely gets confused on the highway, especially when I step on it.

There's a TSB out for the 16' + 17's that I hear fixes many transmission woes. You could talk to your dealer and see if they can apply it to your truck.

    ....TSB EG1810 I believe.

Get a ShiftSensePro. And check your transmission fluid level.

The 3rd gen Taco's automatic transmission shifts strangely for better fuel economy, I think.

Can't check your tranny fluid without doing a full fluid change. (It's on a sensor not dipstick)

End of August the new OVtune comes out which utilizes the latest TSB as well.

I had Shift sense pro(it's in my office now I think lol) IMO it was a stop gap on the way to the OVtune. OVTune is here now, you sprung for the pro, don't cheap out on temporary fixes like the Shiftsensepro

Welcome to the club Ranger Dunn, been having problems (in my opinion) since day one with my 16. Haven't been happy at all with it.

I recently test drove a 2018 and it did the same. Floor it and it wants to downshift two gears when simply accelerating in the gear I was in would have sufficed.

Cruise control is a different matter.

Yeah I'm already OVtuned so I won't bother. Also if I flash the new TSB I can't go back to the tune if I don't like it. So I'll just wait till OV releases an update with the TSB in it. Apparently it's pretty extensive, they were saying it changes the way the comp calculates torque which changes the way it drives completely.
