$19,500? He's on crack. How much did he pay Paul? Couldn't have been that much...

It was a nice truck. Paul did a good job taking care of it for the most part and many of the older members on here helped a ton as well. The issue with trucks like these is maintenance tends to be high. The current owner probably doesn't know half of what he should have been doing... I can promise you now, if the owner didnt take care of all the unibal joints (tie rods, UCA and LCA IIRC) with VA weather, the new owner is probably going to have to replace them all.

Very vague description of what was upgraded. "fully kitted for rock crawling and has a ton of upgrades" - It sucked at rock crawing because the front springs were too stiff.

I may call him to see if he has any clue what is installed...

His tail gate, btw, is a coveted BoxRocket fabrication and IIRC no more than 5-10 exist if even that much... I think his roof rack is as well.

Yeah, it was fully built by Paul. The rear is completely custom and has a ton of flex. He front should have 13+ inches of travel up front but he's running 700# 18" springs IIRC. This is actually one of the reasons why he sold it. He took it wheeling for the first time with LT and the front IFS just wouldn't flex. Springs should be 600 for rocks. Either way, IFS and "rock crawler" don't ussually mesh well.

I also just realized he has it listed as Manual Transmission so unless he did a swap, I'm pretty sure its Auto.

Exactly! I've had to replace my uniballs over the years bc of this. All in all, looks like this dude bought it with no clue. Just wanted a "cool truck" ...

What sort of flex was he expecting...I mean its IFS at the end of the day although 13 inches has significant flex (for me anyways) unless you are an SAS guy.

Most dealers use the same paint guy that travels around and is available on certain days. I used to have the number to the chesapeake guy who would hook me up. He got more money, even though it was cheaper for me, to go direct. See if you can get the shop manager to give the paint guy your number.

Also, there is a on site service that does minor body work and paint that are reasonably priced:
    https://www.onsiterecon.com/

He wanted a truck that could do everything and still ride decent on the road? Some sort of Expo/rock crawer... I dont know but he put a ton of money in that kit, almost 10k IIRC. That said, 13 inches of travel is a ton more than stock which, IIRC, is no more than 5-6 inches... :notsure:

I think another reason why he sold is because his 35's and front lockers kept braking his CV's which were custom built Tundra axels that ran for $1k a piece IIRC. I wouldn't mind LT on my truck but the cost and maintenance just isn't worth it. As you said, at the end of the day, its still just IFS...

Personally I think LT trucks ride greater on road then anything with stock geo can, but maybe its different in a second gen from a first? I mean I know my truck cant rival someone on 40s with SAS, but mine was built for all around capabilities with the fast mover stuff in mind. 13 inches is decent cause it helps to keep the tires on the ground for the most part...if he wanted more than that then either SAS or look into a jeep.

Around 10k is pretty standard...I think my front end alone has almost 8k into it with the buddy hook ups.

Yeah, he was trying to accomplish the same. His issue was he was running 700# springs when he should have used 600#'s. He wasnt getting any travel at all, less than his stock setup. Just look how high his truck sits in the pics. And that's with the bumper and winch.

Ah I need to look his stuff up...def interesting if that is the case. Without knowing this, I would have recommended that spring weight too with a front bumper and winch too. Def weird man, I assume he must have sought out folks to try to explain it right? I remember I wanted to try to seek out his build back when I used to live at the beach.

I think his reasoning was he was running 700's on his old coilover but those were 14" springs. The LT kit ran 18" springs so I think 600 would have put him back at a similar ride height and allow adequate flex. I don't know what a 2nd gen should run but there were a few local 2nd gen's with the 2" LT kit but I think they all moved or sold their trucks...

Aaron ran 700's on his 2nd gen with plate and winch. Not sure how long the 2nd gen springs are, 16 or 18.

Ah that would make sense man...I mean I got the standard kings that are designed for my 3.5 kit, but there is no way I would try to throw something on that wasnt spec'd or approved equal to the kit. I remember when Aaron sold off his ride as my buddy helped install all of his stuff back in the day. Ah ok I see what you mean...yea mine are 16" for my kit.

My wet okoles are off the truck and up for sale. They are less than a year old and have seen little use as I only drive the truck a few times a months. Black/grey half pipe with all the pocket options(Gun/map/sunglass). I also paid extra for the TRD logo. These are for a 2nd gen tacoma Off road. I believe sport seat are different. The price is $200 they are around $350 new. These are front covers only.

    Sold locally

Figure it's a lot easier to switch to a 600# spring than sell your vehicle.

That guy doesn’t know much about that truck. I’ve seen him at the store and wouldn’t give me the time of day when I tried to talk trucks.

I think he moved? I also think he decided he wanted an SAS build. Last I heard he had, or was thinking about getting, a Land Cruiser. He was a bit inconclusive when it came to his build. He had a few different suspension setups, bumper setups, etc... In fact, I bought most of his hand me down's and still have his old rear bumper.
