Toyota Oil Filter (Made in Thailand) vs. the competition........ Little more need be said.

    +1.

It can be, if you're not careful about from whom you purchase. The risk is minimal, however, when buying from one of the Toyota dealers selling case-quantity filters in sealed Toyota packaging.

Interesting the 90915-YZZD3 is made in Thailand while some of Toyota’s other filters are made in the USA.

I purchased a half case of 90915-YZZD3 (Tacoma 4.0 filters) for $26 directly from a Toyota dealer on Amazon. Which makes the filters a little over $5/filter, seems like a no brainer.

Toyota Genuine Parts 90915-YZZD3 Oil Filter 1/2 Case (QTY 5) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A1X9AES/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Uq-JCb0D8A65N

    OEM is a great filter.

I run 10k + oil change intervals, so I prefer a synthetic filter media. My preference is a Fram ultra, but any of the premium filters work. On a per-change basis, Running a single premium filter for 2 or three intervals (or a single long interval) is more cost effective than that case of OEM’s.

If running M1 and an OEM filter at 5k intervals (hello 90% of Tacoma world) makes you feel better, great.

The painful fact for some to admit is that even vanilla Mobil1 could run for 10k in the 1gr-fe. Why not pair it with a filter designed to do that and cut your oil change costs in half (or close to it)?

Toyota recommends a CONVENTIONAL interval of 5k. ANY synthetic will be able to beat that.

We need to remember that the 1gr-fe is late 90’s (at best) tech. Manufacturers are recommending 10k intervals even with TGDI engines (much, much harder on the oil).

The old warhorse port injected 1gr-fe and others of its time (ford 4.6 2v v8, etc) will run as long as you want them to with even occasional service.

The 2nd gen (and first gen) Tacoma boards here on TW are a testament to its longevity. It’s not often that you get 2nd and even 3rd owners actively participating on a forum (and arguing about trivial nonsense).

Cheaper than wix, which you need to read the oil filter thread on here where they cut the filters... The oversize Napa gold is just as high quality as oem... And I think i remember if you use the oversize it has more filter media than oem. Could be wrong but I think I read that on here

Just out of curiosity does anyone have any experience with Quaker State oil filters and how good they are quality-wise? There was one installed on my truck when I bought it

Napa Golds here on everything but the missus new wheels. OEM on that while it's under warranty, just to take it out of the equation in the event of an (unlikely) issue.

Like many others, OEM Toyota filters in bulk via Amazon or eBay. You can find the correct crush washers as well if desired.
