If the guy looked at the hybrid analysis report closer, it showed PCMflash had no network requests at all. I'm just thinking logically here, but what good is a Trojan if it doesn't phone home with stolen info?

I also found nothing malicious by googling quickie@yandex.ru. I found links to PCMflash websites.

Okay so. regarding our flashing application coming up as potential malware.

So, uploading the file to virustotal. You can see some anti-viruses falsely flag our software as a virus. But not all of them.

We can go into more detail privately if necessary.

Now can we please get back to 2.0 EROM testing?

Literally one of the first things mentioned in the instructions is the fact that the software could be wrongly classified as a virus.

Not sure why everyone acted like it was news in the first place lol.

Sorry you have to deal with that. It's funny what some people assume, especially without researching when having zero knowledge of said product. As stated prior. 99.99% of us are behind you 100%. We see the scepticism all the time from those who've done zero research, or listened to someone else who did the same, prior to forming an opinion. Disabling anti-virus and windows defender has probably only been mentioned on this thread 1000 times. Plus it is in the instructions. That those who usually have issues loading the tune, didn't read.

With the new 2.0 version will us Dongle users just download the tune files as before or will we have to update flash manager?

You’ll click the update button in flash manager then download the files.

For being a 23 year security professional that’s some obtuse thinking.
Don’t you think that if Russians were trying to inject Trojan horse or malware in general it would most likely be undetectable?
I mean if there are security definitions for this flagged “virus” then these Russian hackers are pretty dumb..

I don't think his "security reports" mean what he thinks they mean. They don't prove anything, and he wants someone to prove a negative. Hopefully he just goes away.

Yup exactly. Data is great but you have to understand what that data means and it turns out most people don’t and instead jump to conclusions.

I'm on the 87 FOB now, it's a little better than the 91 tune, still jerky throttle though in 1-3rd gear, Ill try the 87 base today then. THE ADM ill probably do too. Also I read into that thread you suggested, am I missing something or is all that tune info useless? That's 1.03 and we're on 1.05. Other than the comments, all that tune stuff is long gone and included in 1.05 correct?

What’s the scoop on the super chargers I’m seeing on the site? I’ve been going back through the thread trying to find the details but gave up. I was under the impression that no ones figured out FI for the 3rd gen?

Most all of us that have been following the @OVTune know that the virus threat is not a concern .
I understand a newbe's feelings about it that is concerned . I do not know if it is just a Dongle thing but we also became concerned after flashing on my friends truck for over 6 months ( a year? ) or more when a popup started coming up when ever trying to flash saying an update was needed . If clicked on , it took us to a site in a foreign language that looked to be Russian . Unreadable to us , and knowing we had all anti virus disabled ,we backed out of it and stopped and contacted Zendesk and waited the several days for an answer . Mat said we did not need the update and just close it and continue . He did not give an explanation other than close it and continue but we felt as long as he knew about it all was fine .
Anyway , some of you seem to be implying that a newbe should be ashamed and feel a fool if they were concerned when this or a virus warning happened to them . Hackers get into every ones lives all the time . I have had my credit cards hacked more than once in the last 10 years .
I have a lot of respect for Mat because of his ability to offer a better tune for this Tacoma ECU and needs security to protect the software .
I also understand a person that questions going through this and is worried about applying it to the ECU of a new truck and being concerned about it being a virus.
Kudos to Mat for taking the time to do some explaining but I wanted to add the part about the pop up for the Russian update because he did not .
Edit - Someone could be thinking they had a virus before they dealt with OVtune .

Ahem, as a 47 year old computer security professional with over 20 years in the industry and a DOD clearance.. I was biting my lip over some of what was being posted.
Don't get me wrong, seeing the source of the flash manager, I ran it through the usual tests prior to bringing it onto my laptop and IF it's a virus it's a damn subtle one. It's always possible it's some slick new variant, and rather than take the usual route of hitting folks with malicious email attachments, this particular Russian Hacker chose instead to target the niche tuning community ;)

Anyone here happen to know definitively the thread size and pitch for our o2 sensors, for those of us who may try running o2 sensor spacers with the catless downpipes to attempt to mitigate CELs? I think that we need a M18x1.5, but I'm unsure. @OVTune perhaps you could confirm threads for your downpipes, for the O2 bungs?

FFS. A guy with that many years as a supposed computer security tech should already know how big software companies get their products cleared with anti-virus software companies. They throw money at the companies to ensure their software doesn't get flagged as a possible virus. OVT is an amazing company with great people, but as any small company it isn't big enough to go around just throwing money at problems.
