    Each of the colors is a different thickness. So, knowing the thread pitch, each shim will back off the amount the knob turns in. I found that resting the shims on top of the shifter stalk was tricky and the shims sometimes slid off as I was installing the knob. A little dab of grease will help hold it in place. Or you can put a dab of grease on the shim and drop it down inside the shifter knob. Then use pencil or small screw driver to get it to lay flat then thread on the shifter knob. There is a link in the OP's signature, that goes over the shim procedure.

    As I recall, each colour shim denotes amount of degrees reduction to max turn. Rick has the chart somewhere in here...so if you are ove spun by 90 deg then it's 2 blue or something of that nature. Might be 1 orange and 1 yellow to solve the equation.

    And ya, dab of grease helps it sit...but if your math is off makes it harder to fish out lol

    I had a chance to drive around a bunch today and test out the new shift knob.

    The verdict: I love it.

    I love the knurled delrin ring. It's the perfect balance of slippy and grippy without being too harsh. The weight of the Ti is pretty much perfect. I found though that I really want to lower the shifter by at least 1.5". The URD STS raises it by 3/4" - 1" and I just don't like it that high. I'm going to see if I can source the right threading die and take care of that.

    Yup, there is a bit of "Kentucky windage" involved in determining the angle needed. I did have to "sneak" up on it when I got close. But I ended up stopping a little short. In the install instructions he mentions that the shims will compress a bit in the first few days and then the knob will over rotate a bit, so you will need to go back and add a blue shim. I was lucky enough that I was able to get it to end up about the amount that a blue shim would add, so I stopped there and let the shims compress and then tightened it right into position.

    Yes, if you have to get the shims back out, it will be one of the rare times you need that pick with the weird little offset tip, to stand the shim up on end and then GENTLEY tap the open end of the knob down on the table to get the shims back out.

    I don't have his number, lol. But I do actually use those same types of shims to set up some of my machines at work, so I have a little practice with them. Of course, in this application, there is an extra step in converting the metric thread to SAE, or shim thickness to mm first, before you can determine which size to use. Luckily, Rick had already done that in the shim instructions.

    It gave me an idea. I want to relocate my ECT button to somewhere closer to the shifter. I never thought of that location until I saw something in the pic you posted.
