It’s an old trail-master lift kit. I believe they used a old VW shock for some reason.

That lift is shit. Honestly. It's a terrible lift and is no longer being sold for a good reason.

This thing uses a shock as a balljoint spacer. A shock...

I'll tell you what we tell all the people who talk about having this lift.

That there is a Trail Disaster er...Master...lift.

I recall reading that they are difficult to replace because they require fabrication to install but I might be wrong. Hopefully.

Yeah, the whole "let's throw a shock from a VW in there" always seemed fishy.

what else are you supposed to do when you’re not a fabricator and you had some VW parts laying around?

Also kind of cool to see how people didnt just put a bunch of one-liner shit-posts in the guys thread, but helped him instead.

what sucks about these is that they are discontinued and parts are no longer available. So even if dudes that are unlucky enough to have them want to just maintain or fix it they are screwed. The VW shocks used for them were tweaked a bit so you can't just get one off ebay.

They pop up once in a while on TW from dudes who don't know much buying a used 1st gen with a 4-6" lift thinking they scored a great deal only to later realize it is this mess.

It is reversible though but takes some work and oem parts to get it back to normal.
