Question for any of you running an ARB Summit front bumper with a Pro style or official Pro grille. Did y'all run into any issues with TSS after installing? I just got off the phone with ARB and they are saying that the Pro grille TSS sensor location prevents it from functioning properly and they do not recommend installing their bumper on any 3rd Gen Tacoma with it. Supposedly it works with the factory non Pro grille.

Anyhow, was wondering if any of y'all have ran the ARB Summit bumper with TSS and Pro grille and if you had issues with it like ARB warns about. Or, if you found a way around the sensor issue. Thanks for any help.

I put the TRD Pro grille on my Off Road and at first a few errors came up here and there, usually when it was raining. I did not put on the garnish because it's too shiny. After a while it stopped having errors and worked normally. It would give me the BRAKE warning if it felt a collision was imminent.

A couple of months later and I installed the ARB Summit bumper and I have had no issues with the TSS-P sensor. It still gives me the BRAKE warning and beeps if it detects a possible collision. I haven't been in a situation where it had to apply the brakes for me... yet.

That is my experience with the TSS-P and the TRD Pro grille and the ARB Summit bumper. I can not say that it will be the same for you or anyone else.

Hmmmm... Sounds like it's working just fine then. When you changed the grille, I'm guessing you had to move the sensor lower to where the pro grille has it's sensor?

Also, does the front lower TSS sensor also control the variable cruise and auto high beams? If anyone knows. Thanks!

    Variable cruise - yes.
Your auto high beams are controlled by the unit located at the top of windshield.

I can't remember if it was lower or higher but I am pretty sure it's a different height than the Off Road grille. I always assumed that the errors went away after it recalibrated to the new position.

I may be wrong but I believe the variable cruise control uses the TSS sensor for radar and the cameras behind the rear-view mirror, while the auto high beams only use the cameras behind the rear-view mirror. It's been a while since I was in sales, memory's getting all fuzzy when it comes to product knowledge.

Appreciate the information. Have any pics of your ARB bumper on your truck? Personally, I like the looks of the more "rock crawling" stealth bumpers. But functionally, a bull bar protecting the whole front is better for me. We have a ton of deer that run around here and I drive around cattle a lot. The extra protection is more important to me then the looks of it. And ARB is a solid company.

That is one hell of a bumper. I don't think I would want to be on the receiving end of that thing in a wreck.

Contact ARB directly asking if there were any mounting changes for the 2020 Tacoma. I was advised they haven’t been given a 2020 yet to test so they could say it will fit for sure. The rep said they have been discussing a few changes because of safety sensor conflicts.

He best advise was to wait for them to do a fit test or reach out to other Tacoma owners to see if anyone dared to risk the fitting on the 2020.

Same information I received. Rep said they should be coming out with a new model in 2020 to address any and all issues related to TSS. I also went to my local dealer and showed them the bumper. Few guys from the shop checked it out and said that TSS should still work but that it might have to be re-calibrated for ~$100.

I went with the @victory4x4 strike bumper instead. Doesn't interfere with anything and is half the weight. Not as beefy as the ARB, but we'll see how it goes.

I’m all about keeping the deer out of my grill. We hit them frequently in north Missouri.
Which grill do you have in? The off road or pro? Did you go with the hoop in the center? Or you could post a pic? Worth a 1000 words.
Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated!

lol. I have a factory 2020 pro. I went with the no hoop model. But I called victory and asked about the hoop and they confirmed that it wouldn’t interfere with TSS. I’m still waiting on the victory bumper to get here. Just ordered it last week. But I’ll always post a pic of my truck. This was right after I got it lifted.

Also, I’m with ya on the deer. My luck, I’d put a big arb bumper on and the deer would run into my door.

The Carista is very simple to operate, just plug it into your OBD2, download the app, and away you go!

I hooked up the "Carista" and it worked like a charm. I was able to clear the fault, then it let me change the setting in the system to remember the last setting for the PCS system. You can turn the system off as one of the normal settings on your dash. It now "remembers" to stay off as the default setting. There are a couple drawbacks by doing this. The "PCS off" dash light is always on, I can live with that. The adaptive cruise doesn't work either. I wasn't in love with this feature, and thought that it was slighltly annoying at times. I think that the only way to keep it would be to change my grill to a offroad or SR5 grill, where the sensor is mounted higher and should avoid the raised bumper and winch. This might not work either though, especially when I go to mount some offroad lights there. So I will live with the adaptive cruise off. The old school cruise works now though. It stopped working altogether after I got the message to go "see the dealer".

I was also able to adjust other features in my truck, such as the seatbelt beep, door locks, and such. I immediately turned off the seatbelt beep, and made a few other adjustments. The only complaint I have is that it wasn't able to adjust any of the settings on my 2012 FJ Cruiser. That car isn't "supported".

The "Carista", in my opinion, is worth the money spent. I bought it off of Amazon for $20.00, and then, to be able to use the "advanced" settings, I had to buy a year or a week subscription. The one week is $10 bucks and the year is $40. I did the year because you get the first month free. I plan on cancelling it before the month is up so that I won't incur that $40 charge. If I would have gone to the dealer, I would be out a lot more money than that, closer to $150, and they wouldn't have shut off that annoying seatbelt chime either. The Carista is the way to go for sure.
