I have decided that if I buy a new vehicle that I am not to go to work on the first 3rd of any month that begins with the letter A. Hit a deer again. Last time was August 3, 2010. This time April 3, 2020.

Last time was with a 2010 Wrangler Rubicon, this time with my new 2019 Tacoma. Deer literally exploded on impact.

The good news, it mostly took out all the plastics on the front end. Bumper and grill are done for. With this being my first Tacoma, I’m not terribly familiar with the supporting structure behind the bumper and grill or any sensors that may have been there before.

This leads me to my next questions. What great aftermarket bumpers are out there? How will an aftermarket bumper affect sensors? What else should I be looking for as far as possible hidden damage?

Be better to say the deer hit you and let your insurer pick up the tab.

Most definitely! He was exploding as I saw him. Another vehicle was passing me going the other direction about the same instant. Pretty sure he crossed just behind that other vehicle.

Mine was $7500 to fix. Damage about the same outsidetaco wreak 054.jpg . Hidden damage really drove the cost up to fix. I had a piece of grill go thru the radiator and even though the fender wasn't damaged it was pushed back into the passenger door from all the plastic parts breaking. The deer got up and walked away. I limped home with the bumper cover rubbing the front tire.
When they fix your truck parts will be ordered with the VIN number. Toyota wont recognize any mods because of that. It was a nightmare for me and my truck sat for 2 months. Mine is a SR with TRD grill and Limited foglights. They kept sending me SR parts even when I gave them the correct part numbers for the grill and lights.

There was nothing left! Worst deer hit I’ve ever seen. A lot like those ones you see o. The highway that an 18 wheeler took out.

I’ll have to go back out and look. Pretty sure none of the metal moved at all, but good point to check that fender before I open the door. Still need to clean off the hair and other assortment of leftovers before I can be sure there is no radiator damage but at least it’s not leaking.

Body gaps are all great on the sheet metal. Even more sure now that the damage was contained to the plastics and structure. The pass side headlight assembly is snapped off at the fender so it needs to be replaced. Fog lamp is destroyed on the pass side as well.

    *prewashed
Dont know why it put prewasted. Exploding deer (or any other walking creature) makes a nice mess of things.
