How did you guys figure out the wheel clearance for your flat beds?

It looks like everyone did something a little different.

I really want to make one as low as possible for center of gravity reasons, but need bed flat and without any type of humps.

I was considering riding over some rocks and measuring the current gap in the wheel wells, but if someone knows that would save me some trial and error.

    Thanks

I measured from the top of the frame to the top of the inside of the fender well, and replicated that height, that gave me the desired height. To make that height I needed 8 inches from the top of the bed mounts, to get that I used 2x2 across the frame on the bed mounts, and 2x6 as the main frame for the bed. I ended up fairly high (from a rock crawler/ COG point of view), but I am happy with it. I used the space to build an area for a cabinet for long recovery gear, and some 'overlanding' things (air compressor, battery water tank, and pump), and with the tool boxes, it regains some of that COG.

I would love more details on that rear bumper of yours! I'm in the process of ordering my Ute Ltd deck as well!

I made it myself. There's a thread on the build here on TW. It's working out well so far!

Thanks, the truck was a total loss from a rollover that I bought from an insurance auction. Its been about 9 months of weekends to get it to where it's at now.
