I dont know if easy is the word. Thats the only time ive ever had any issue with it and like I said we were out crawling (less than 10mph) for probably 4-5 hours before the issue arose. I daily drive the truck in Texas (typically 100*+ in the summer) without issue along with towing with the truck.

But an additional cooler couldn't hurt.

Hot is different than cooked to the point of failure. You probably experienced some severe oil breakdown. Did you happen to know the temp when the issue started?

Nope. My trucks all stock so I dont have a way to monitor the trans temp.

That's a pretty sophisticated system if it allows for colder fluids and hotter fluids to flow at the same rate. I like it! Is the additive Sea Foam? I think I am going to price around now for a complete flush and fill with something synthetic, and I might add an additional cooler like you did.

I found another thread that gets kudos from @gearcruncher started by @Lord Humongous

This is an excellent thread in just the first page. I plan on reading through that entire thread as well.

The additive is lubeguard. This is the stuff for 2nd gen. Not sure for 3rd gen.

I just used Toyota WS fluid. Figured I'll change it often enough it should be fine, especially at the lower temps. That being said, I'm overdue. I will say mileage was affected by lower daily temps, but I don't drive this with all the mods for high mileage.

If they eliminated the ATC and changed the radiator a bit couldn't you compare the two radiators looking for any differences ?

    Same crap everyone else got
It's looking like they didn't change anything but remove the cooler. So the only difference in the tow package trucks being made now compared to the pre 2/2020 trucks will be the cooler itself.

Cause it was a production phase out decision and not a hard MY change decision... they stopped putting them on as the parts ran out.

Initially the Long Tru Cool 4589 but later upgraded to the Long H7B for 20% more capacity.
The Long 4590 as has been mentioned also fits the space and has the same dimensions as the H7B.

The H7B just allows you to choose your hose connection size with 1/2” National Pipe Thread inlet and outlet.

If I go in to the local Toyota dealer in the near future to buy and the Offroad model I choose doesn't have the aux trans cooler, I will just walk. I tow a lot, and I offroad quite a bit as well, and there is supposed to be a tow package on these trucks. That includes a auxillary trans cooler. I might end up buying a lightly used OR but its hard to save money, I am still not ready to buy due to the noisy rear diff problem. Quality control seems to be getting out of hand with Toyota Tacoma production.

Do you have anything showing that it is needed or is just because that's what you're used to and that's what been there in the past? I assume Toyota looked into it and decided it wasn't and they could save money by eliminating it. If it worries you that much you can always add an additional aftermarket cooler that will be better anyway.

Definitely a disappointing situation for those that ended up without the cooler unknowingly. For those looking to buy, their is the option to negotiate adding the OEM setup at the time of purchase.

Do you have something from Toyota showing that?

I would be interested in something from Toyota regarding how the cooler install is going to affect the powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the info. It will be a more difficult install for me because of the lack of lines to the front of radiator.
