Knocked the sport mirror swap out today and hardwired the gmrs into the truck

going to post a quick step by step on the sport mirrors for anyone who may be interested in the swap

Some initial things I didn't get pictures off. Take off door panels, take off the floor molding by the door and the kick panels also may want to remove the panel under the steering wheel (I have read this can set off the alarm so disconnect battery if you want to do this step). I also want to note that my 2013 offroad was prewired for the sport mirrors (5 wires at the connection point) but they were not connected further down the line.

    Step 1:
Run a good amount of wire through the grommet connecting to the door

after the wire is ran you're gonna want to fish it through the plastic and then bring it to the mirror connection.

Driver side you are looking for the pink wire (signal) and the white wire (ground) tap into these wires

Next for driver side, you're going to want to tap into the yellow/green?(I'm colorblind sorry) wire for your signal wire

and find a bolt for a proper ground. I used the bolt holding in the kick panel

Passenger side same initial steps remove needed panels run wire through the grommet fish the cables up to the connection of the mirror

The passenger side was surprisingly more tricky than the driver side, you will also want to allow yourself a longgg wire due to the fact you need to run it to the driver side. I went above some of the wires behind the glove box and ran behind the center console then up and over to where you need to be. The hard part will be connecting the grommet back to where it was because its a tigher fit.

Passenger side you are going to be dealing with a light blue(signal) and a white wire(ground) They are in the same locations as the pink and white on the driver side if you need reference. Tap into needed wires.

Using the same location run your ground wire.

For the passenger turn signals you're looking for a blue wire with a white stripe

If you removed the panel under steering wheel reconnect everything and then reconnect your battery terminal turn the truck on and check for function!

    TW pages used for reference:

    sport mirror swap 1

@Ryan2103a mirror install (shows location of harness needed to tap)

Thanks for this, I'm going to add heated mirrors at some point and plan to use the lighted units like these.
Been looking at the various heated mirror threads on here and working up a plan on what I'll need.

These arent the heated ones, youll need 4 runner mirrors for that and I believe a mirror adjuster from a rav 4. There are a ton of threads on that swap on here though. The wires you need to tap into for signal will be the same but im not sure about anything else.

36 mile range is when you're parked on a hill and your recipient is parked 36 miles away across the salt flats. Only way you're getting that sort of range.

I saw that you used a hilux snorkel, any particular reason why? Also did it require any modifications? I've been looking into getting a snorkel lately and this is the first time I have seen a hilux snorkel on a tacoma.:D

It's a lot lower profile than the tacoma one along the fender. No mods required but it doesn't sit flush to the fender as its not for a tacoma. See below for the writeup on it. Hardest part is figuring the fender holes out since the hilux template doesnt work. Cruiser outfitters across the street from me has a custom template that they made for the tacoma with this fender though.

    Oh, now you've seen two:

Yep! its the hilux snorkel off Amazon, couple reasons all the tacoma snorkels are huge and not appealing to my eye, this snorkel has a lower profile and is not as bulky. Also tacoma snorkels run for about 3-500 bucks while this whole kit ran me about 180 and some change. Now there is a slight gap because its not a perfect fit right by where it goes into the fender, but with some patience and some black silicone you can fill the gap right up and cant even tell its there. Im currently moving so maybe at some point today i can snag a picture of the little gap, its pretty minor.

here is the gap, like I said I've filled mine with black silicone to make it less noticeable

    ARB SS135MODR

You can get it from Cruiser Outfitters and it comes with a 2nd gen tacoma template @cruiseroutfit made up with the gang through some trial and error. Or you could buy it cheaper on Ebay and hope you get it right by eye. I'd highly recommend option 1. Great service and support.

Haven’t posted much due to moving. Beach trip starts this weekend but I’m leaving on a smaller trip tonight leading into the beach so I’ll be flooding this with pictures of the adventure.

Nice build! Did you prefer the shell and rooftop tent or the bed rack and roof top tent? Seems like a fairly obvious answer in that the shell, but interested to hear you opinion.

I like the look of the shell so I’m pretty biased. The shell gave me more room to build drawers and stuff too.

Small photo dump been on the road since Tuesday

Went to meet up with Brad from hi vis overland to borrow a rooftop tent since I’m still waiting on mine. If you guys haven’t checked them out I highly suggest it, his products are awesome. Not to mention he’s a stand up guy. My hotel was right in the middle of a sketchy part of town and he let me camp in his front yard to prevent anything from getting picked out of my truck.
    South Carolina first night

The next day I headed to Nc but with my luck my fridge wasn’t working and my swingout handle broke. I lucked out as one of my old buddies works as a fleet service repair guy in Nc and his boss was at the beach so I was able to come through and get everything fixed. I guess when I cleaned my battery terminals last week I forgot to re connect the power cable for my 2nd battery so it was getting no charge :bananadead:.

Next stop was Croatan natl forest to camp for the night but sadly the spot I was looking for had the access road closed to it. Did a little cruising and headed to the ferry.

This morning I had some time to kill so I went and checked out the shipwreck of the Queen Anne’s Revenge which was Blackbeard’s flagship

This whole trip started around wanting to check out the shipwreck and the maritime museum but sadly the museum was closed due to COVID

Back at the ferry now and hopefully I’ll get to go onto the island a day earlier than planned
