I think I came up with a pretty neat Mod for anyone that wants an easy way to switch between CarPlay and a USB music stick.

Let me start of with -- I purchase the CplaytoAir adaptor for wireless car play and it works great for me. There is a 1 second lag on changing songs and about .5 second lag using the phone but to me it is worth it. They keep updating the firmware and it gets better and better.

The first problem is the Tacoma only give you 1 media plug-in. So if you want to use Carplay then you can't use it for usb stick. You would have to unplug the cord or in my case the wireless carplay and plug in your usb music stick and vice verse if you want to switch back.

There really is no solution for this, Hubs don't work. There is one company in China that is working on developing a special carplay hub but it looks like they are only selling to manufacturers of the headunit.

This is the solution I came up with.
This works on my system JBL 2020 it might work on non JBL but I can not confirm.

I first had to order the correct USB cable from the headunit here is the link. They changed the adapter for 2020 so this is the only cord I could find that fit my head unit.
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000904194171.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5c114c4dAYqGYO

I plug the above cord into the headunit and the other side into a custom USB A/B switch that I made. I just joined the 3 ends of USB cords together and join the black and red wires. I then ordered this switch from Didikey.
    https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/e-switch/PBH2UEENAGX/EG2655-ND/805271

The switch is a DPDT ON/ON switch and is what is need for this application. You connect the incoming USB cord (the one connecting to the cord order above) and hook the green and white wire to the middle terminals and the other 2 usb out going to the top and bottom leads of the switch. When the switch is down USB cord 1 works, when the switch is up then USB 2 works. For USB 1 and USB 2 I plugged them into an extension with a 2 port USB plug on the end

and installed that in my center console.

Got the idea of the A/B switch from this youtube video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-ySUHcP6Tw

The reason I selected that switch is because you can use it with any of the OEM or after market tacoma small switches. These switches come apart so you can use different parts to make a custom switch. The switch button has some grooves that this digikey switch fits perfectly in. You will have to modify it to make it work correctly but after I did that it functions just as good as the OEM switches and works great.

I don't use the circuit board that comes with the switches so they don't light up.

I was unable to find a ON/ON DPDT switch via OEM or Third party that would work so had to make my own.
I don't have pictures of the switch but I am moving its location in my truck and when I pull it out I will take a picture of it.

In the center console the dual port plug is setup with the top USB plug as my wireless car play and the bottom USB port as my USB music stick.

So if I want to listen to music from my usb stick I just depress the button and it turns wireless car play off and lets me select USB music, and vice verse by only pressing the switch.
The other reason I wanted this solution is I have a wireless dashcam that connects via wifi, and it would not work correctly if wireless car play was active, so by hitting the button it switches carplay off and then I can download or view the dashcam.

Not sure if this is clear enough to follow but it is a great solution for me and I am very excited that I got it to work.

Looks really cool, that video just reminds me of all those videos on instagram that makes a tool by cutting up and destroying a bunch of other tools when you could have just bought the tool you made.

Ah that makes sense. My solution there is a new meso switch panel with regular size cutouts and run an extension plus this splitter to the center console, that way I get room for another switch later

Question for everyone, When I pulled out my USB plug in my dash and the radio and tried to put another switch in its place it would not fit. Is that the same for everyone else or was I just having a bad day and it does fit. When I look at it closer it looks like it is fatter and shorter than a reg switch, that might be different for the 2020 because it only has USB out not USB/Aux. Just looking for confirmation.

Same for my 2020, hence the custom switch panel to replace with a non custom switch cutout where the dumb size yoga usb used to live
