Even if near empty, stacking up some 2x4 under the front and back ends of the tank make it easier to drop in a controlled manner. Especially if you're doing it by yourself.

Quick tip for the fuel bowl and making the holes for the strap that holds the pump in place. Instead of using a dremel, heat the end of a flat head screw driver up with some Map gas and just push it through. Way easier to control than a dremel and much quicker

Would the inline check valve work for pretty much any tacoma? I've got a 98 and its been hard starting sence I've had it. Had a shop put in a fuel pump assembly and fuel strainer and still hard starts. Thinking about adding the check valve.

Ive had my URD pump kit on for over 100k miles. Overtightening the clamps is a huge no no. Also using the DW pump is a big plus. Never heard anything good on the walboro. This is coming from a Cts-v putting over 650rwhp to the wheels.

So I don't know how I feel about crimpers so I also soldered the left over wiring from the fuel pump. I'd feel a lot better about this kit if it came with a solid wire with insulation from the aftermarket pump to the toyota plug.

You have to make sure those melt on connectors are fuel resistant. I used only the stuff in the urd kit because it was rated to resist corrosion from fuel. You don't need any of those boys eroding away into your fuel system. Def double check on those connectors.

I found using an ultraguage to measure fuel trims as a great way to know when to replace the fuel filter. When my long trims go + , - 10 I know it's time to swap it out. It ends up needing replacing about every 20 k miles

Those are the URD kit crimpers. I also soldered in the wire that comes out of crimp, goes around and back into the crimp for a redundancy. I just don't trust the crimper method. I'd like to find a solid wire harness.

2014 AC TRD-OR NA V6 MT, 63K miles, no known fuel-related issues whatsoever at this time, but I want to do the URD fuel pump kit so that I have a serviceable external filter.

Previous in-line attachments and/or links to the full 22-page URD pump install instructions aren't working. Appreciate it if someone can post or DM me the instructions so I can read them before I buy the kit.

Have read this entire thread & several others. In summary:

    - Access Cab & short-bed owners have the option to slide the truck bed out for top access to fuel tank, instead of dropping the tank from below.
    - DW255 pump seems to be preferred.
    - Adding a proper corrugated fuel tube seems to be preferred.
    - Adding a quality brass check valve can't hurt.
    - Be really careful if using any other wire splicing method or materials other than what comes with the URD kit.
    - Consider using an appropriately-shaped heated tool to melt openings in the fuel pump housing assembly (aka "the white bathtub") rather than cutting them.

Is there any other preventative maint I should do while I have the fuel tank inners exposed?

    - Maybe rinsing out the tank itself with clean gasoline to get any old crud off the bottom?
    - I plan to make a brief resistance check of the level sender potentiometer.

It's not just Access Cab & short-bed owners. I was easily able to re/move my 6' bed on my '05 double cab to access the top of the tank.

Short bed owners HAVE to drop the tank, long bed trucks (DCLB, access cab, regular cab) can do either.

Any suggestions on where to zip tie the fuel filter to prevent it banging against the bottom of the truck? I went above the crossbeam with my hose and think I'm hearing some rattling.

I picked up an aftermarket drop-in to get mine prepped. I have not installed it the cable from the top portion to my AEM pump was plug and play. I don't think I will need to cut and solder. i can look up the drop in but if that works one less thing to deal with. Do we need to create that loop in the cable that's the only difference i have noticed.

You do not need to create the loop.

cool was surprised to see that plugs worked so figure less points to crimp.

Yeah on my current build, the AEM pump was plug and play with my 2016 Gx460 fuel pump housing. I don't think I tried last time to see if it was plug and play. Although if you do have to cut and solder, I found that you can use PTFE Teflon heat shrink tubing. It is highly resistant to gasoline and works great in gasoline submersion.

Any of you California guys have any issues passing smog with the URD fuel pump kit? Not worried about the pump itself, but I'm worried they won't pass me due to the external fuel filter and hose, even though the hose is CARB approved.

Also, thanks to everyone for the suggested modifications, tips, and tricks! Install went smooth and the truck runs great!
