I am having trouble with my harness and am not sure what the problem is. I had my ipod connected then I bumped the connector and now I can't get it to reconnect or charge. I don't know if the problem is the usb cable to the ipod, the usb side of the dual connector, the wiring to the Entune radio or the Entune radio.

If anyone has any ideas, i'd appreciate hearing them. TIA.

I think I have it figured out. I had a bad 30 pin usb cable for my ipod. I ordered a 10 pack and, so far, problem solved.

I gotta say, this is one awesome mod. The ipod is out of the way in the center console. I put it in a throw away piece of "Tupperware" so it doesn't get banged around. I couldn't be happier. I was using this but I've since ordered 2 of these so everything should be Quick Charge 3.0. I haven't installed it yet. I'm waiting for this to arrive and I will. I will have one port available so I'm gonna install this and run the USB cable down to it so it should be Quick Charge too. I was going to build a Frankenmount but thought I'd try the easy way first.

I decided to leave the OEM accessory plug in the center console and add the dual USB beside of it. It came out looking pretty good.

Many thanks OP. I have a 2020, so I already have USB in the arm rest, but want to move CarPlay up to the top of the dash from the inside, using a Dashboard Multi-Mount (TacoGarage). It would also be great to up the power. Can I just tap the two wires going to the arm rest USBs? Alternately, is there a way to plug something into the blade connectors that attach to the back of the cigarette lighter in the dash (rather than cut the wires)? Advice much appreciated.

Question about Apple Carplay usb inputs. Do most Aftermarket head units only allow you one usb input location ? Meaning if I wanted to have 2 different areas in my truck for my usb inputs to carplay is that possible? Thinking about one by my ram mount a pillar in the left of steering wheel blanks and another under climate controls. Or do I just get one shot and I gotta nail it ? Thanks

If there is only one usb input, you could introduce a splitter before your usb mount in the console, and then run an extention over to where the blanks are where you want your additional input mount. Several people have used this method for introducing a second usb input location for the radio in the center console, or for getting around the folder limit. I don't see why this wouldn't work here as well.

im not sure on 2020 wiring so can’t help with connectors, but I know what you want can be done. Also to pull power from the cigarette lights google positaps, that’s you best option if you don’t have the tools or connectors to make your own T harness.

this depends on the head unit, you can use T harness as suggested, but you will never be able to have something plugged into both USBs at the same time. Many headunits support USB hubs, but usually only 2 ports, and the hubs that work will be hit n miss.

Much appreciated. But I don't think this is what I had in mind. Here is a photo of the connector at the back of the cigarette lighter (different model, borrowed photo). The lighter has two "blades" on the back that plug into the electrical harness (white plastic in the photo). My thought was to put a junction between the blades at the back of the cigarette lighter and the harness. This would make it possible to draw power off the harness without splicing into the wiring (plug and play). I am sure I have things wrong, many thanks for the education!

That’s absolutely what you can do, spade connectors will fit. But the negative is the standard size spade (what ever that is), the positive is one size smaller. Just easier to use posi-taps for a T connection then you’re not messing around trying to find the right size spade for the positive.

Dang that’s a lot of work, I’ll stick with my BlueSea 1045 replacing the cig lighter.

Posi-taps are the way to go. You'd only be punching a small hole in the wire. Remove the posi-tap and no harm no foul.

You would not want to do this because it runs the risk of too much draw through the existing wires. At best you'd blow fuses. Any additional power ports(including a usb charge port) should have a dedicated hot lead coming from a fused source such as an add-a-fuse keeping in mind the total current on that fuse slot.

The cig lighter won’t remove easy. I used needle nose to grab it and rocked it back and forth slowly pulling it out. If you try and pry you will mar up the plastic bezel.

I crimped on new tabs and plugged in the bluesea

It’s pretty easy, the toughest part is getting it out.

Ideally you do it from the backside by first removing the plastic outer shell which gives access to the release tabs for the metal inner shell.
