Was the A pillar the only thing you have to remove for the whole install for both cameras? Please tell me how you removed it so nothing was damaged.

    Thanks!

I only removed the A pillar. Right behind the airbag SRS plastic cap is a bolt its either a 8 or 10mm, can't recall the size. It is very right, I used strong tape to get it off instead of using a screw driver (plastic cap). I also removed a single bolt on the plastic shroud that holds the knee air bag (behind the weather stripping) to run the power wire to the single fuse tap.

you can wire the cam power to the review mirror plug by installing a 12v - 5v USB converter (cheap on Amazon). Also, if it has a wired rear camera, run the cable for that through the headliner with a fish tape or stiff wire to the rear window. Did mine in 20 minutes. No tapping into the fuse box and all wires are tucked away in the headliner.

i usually tap the windshield wipers for radar installs. they take a lot of power but are not used too often depending on where you live.

I have the Viofo A129duo and use this OBD2 power cable from Amazon. It connects directly to your OBD2 port and draws power only and connects directly to your dash cam. There is a switch that allows normal dash cam recording when vehicle is on. Flip the switch and it will power your dash cam in parking mode. I have never left it in parking mode overnight, but instructions says that it will turn off automatically if there is too much battery drain and it hits a certain level. I only use parking mode when doing errands and have never left it on overnight since I park in a secured garage. Works well, no issues. Sorry I'm a newbie to this forum and don't know how to upload pics yet but this is the product description from Amazon.

OBD2 OBD Power Cable for Dash Camera, Ssontong OBD to Mini USB OBDII Adapter Hardwire Charger Cable 24 Hours Surveillance and Acc Two Mode

    Price: $11.99

What issue will this method cause? I ask because this is what I have been doing for the last 3 months.

I'm getting ready to install my dash cam. I don't care about parking mode. What's the best fuse to tap into that's power only when ignition is on? I have an SR so no power mirror, I have to hard wire to the fuse box.

    Hi,
Thanks for the info! Installing this week. I cant tell what fuses did you tap into there behind the cover? Also what amp fuses are you running in top and bottom slots of each fuse tap.

    Thanks again

I have an OBDII plug that powers the camera with a proximity sensor. It turns on if someone is within X number of feet of the sensor. It works well.

I use the same method in my wife’s Grand Cherokee and my Vette. For my Tacoma I have a splitter to let me run the camera and my ScanGauge.

The VIOFO hardwiring kit doesn’t include two fuses. I think they recommend 2 amp. 5 amps will work also.

They make a USB adapter that piggybacks off your rear view mirror. Many have done this with zero issues. There's a thread somewhere here that talks about that in pretty good detail.

    Thanks,

My bad. Im not that quick today, didn't realize that the images were reversed :)
And if anyone else is reading this Always hot = Empty Slot, ignition on = USB. If using the VIOFO HK3 ACC Hardwire Kit. Red (BAT) to Empty Slot, Yellow to USB Fuse, Black is the ground.

    Update!
I tried the Sunroof fuse slot, did not work for always on like some other people did. Used that extra empty slot, yep that works, thats the ticket, its always on. Put the red there! Yellow to USB

I did the same to hardwire my camera and no issues. With a strong battery it can go 48+ hours without dropping below the voltage threshold.

I have the same setup on another car that is now 4 years old and the original battery had a hard time keeping voltage especially when below 40 degrees. Or the camera shuts off when I open the car door.
