Switched up the list a bit.
Wanted to do dual cases this year but it looks like it'll be a bit more than I can handle right now with work and life. Want to keep my center diff locker to have the AWD/4WD option but the multimode case is much longer than the J-Shift one so I'll need to relocate the gas tank - aka F150 tank swap and since I'll have all that room up there, a proper 4 link. So 4 Link, F150 tank, and all that comes with dual cases... not happening this year.
Most all the front end/suspension items are done.
Have most everything to complete the rear too, just waiting on some 2.0x12" Kings from Accutune [June-ish ETA].
I've been meaning to get a welder and buy a Coastal Offroad front bumper and get rid of my current one but every weekend has been spent doing something/out of town - thinking that'll still likely happen before summer, just not sure on exact timeline.

Was able to take the 4Runner off jack stands last weekend and have driven it to work a few times.
Everything looks just about the same minus some fender cutting and the new roof rack - but I'll try to get some half decent pictures in here soon.

Oh yeah, and my rear locker engages every time I turn my compressor on so sounds like a dirty/bad solenoid.

Real shit picture here but got the 4Runner off jack stands and out for a shakedown run. Everything worked as it should. I should probably double check all my nuts and bolts to make sure everything is still tight before the next trip out - have a couple coming up. She goes into the shop for some new rear shock towers and Kings in July, hopefully I can find the motivation to swap to disc brakes before then too.

Oh yeah, been looking for a tow rig too. But used vehicle prices are crazy right now. If I find one, hopefully some real fun shit happens to the 4Runner.
Oh yeah oh yeah, and the list of parts accumulating for next winter is quite nice...

Got this kit sitting in the garage. New lower mounts too

The stock upper mounts are a real pain to get to do this should alleviate that plus let me run a longer shock

What limits the travel at droop and compression? I've seen some long bumpstops on these rearends and I'm only familiar with negative leaf arch limiting bump travel. Saw a 2x10" shock on another site being used with an upper mount outside the frame. 12" shock netting you any more travel?

Well the biggest limiter is the shock itself.

After that, you can get slightly more with offset rear lower links, and maintain stability (axle pull) with a panhard correction kit.

The way the rear sway bar is set up doesn't become too much of an inhibitor, but after you remove it, you run into a fuel tank issue where your driveshaft can make contact.

Even if you do an F150 tank swap, the factory link positioning limits further travel.

Going with a custom 3/4 link with F150 tank alleviates all of that.

The reason I was interested in mainly going 10" or 12" - I guess if a 10" shock positioned right can account for all the travel of the system and there's enough additional height in the wheel well for a 12" to not limit bump height then either should work in that setup unless the 10" limits travel and you're going with a different link setup.

Outboard 12" shock would be ideal, as you'd be able to use most of the travel even on the stock link positioning.

I plan on going with an outboard setup like @MattJakobs but have been too busy with life.

Durobumps 5.25" Rear Bump Stops will limit my uptravel, thinking that the rear link geometry will limit my down travel for now. Once a new link setup gets thrown in, shocks will get strapped and will be the limiting factor.
Yes. This + crawl box over the winter is the goal/plan.

I'll be going with a different link geometry all together come this winter. Plenty of people run a 10" shock with outboarded shocks. Even if I wasn't going to link the rear, I'd probably go 12" because size matters.
If you're looking for stock geometry and stock mounting location, it's pretty common to run 4th Gen 4Runner rear shocks.
    Life... :pccoffee:

Now I'm curious; reverse triangulated setup?

I'm running for the time being 4G4R rear Bilsteins as one of my King 2.5 rears took a crap with only 8k miles on them.

Noticing plenty more droop available to me, but I'll be going custom 12" Kings in the rear for my relocation. Just not sure if I want to link the rear in the coming years once I pick up welding.

    Likely dual triangulated.
Since I'm 01, I have center diff locker and my multimode case is longer - so much so that I need to do the F150 gas tank in order to clear the cases. No point in having room for a 4-link and not running a 4link.

In an ideal world, I'd run 2.0 coilovers and notch the frame but I don't know how feasible that would be without sacrificing interior space/running 3.5BS wheels + wheel spacers.

New rear shock hoops have been welded on. Rear disc brakes are in order. Waiting on new Kings...
