Got mine from OK4WD. ARB part #3423020 (The #3423040 is another option some carry, it has an "integrit" finish, basically like a matte textured powdercoat versus the plain, glossier powder mine has)

    https://ok4wd.com/arb-front-winch-bar-for-1995-2004-toyota-tacoma

OK4WD is great to work with, but I'd call to check stock, most dealers are backordered right now waiting on boats.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I’ve dealt with 4wheelparts before and the were great. I’ll give them a call on Tuesday to check availability.

I was wondering about that other finish. I’m glad you mentioned that. I think I’d rather get the traditional glossier finish. Thanks again

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
    Operation: Rusty spindle (Continued)

I bent the top tabs inward to get a better fit.

Also, Beveled the edges where the gussets are welded under/inside where the UBJs are. If you run SPC or similar, that needs a clip to go around the UBJ sleeve, you don't want the weld to build up in this area. It will make it so the clip doesn't fit.

Robert started the 4th off early, by running some sparklers

I think they turned out just fine

All taped up and first coat is on.

Jen loves it when I get overspray on the lawn

We preheated the areas with a torch, and skipped back and for from one spindle to the other and one area of the spindle to the other. Welding about 1/2 to 3/4 bead at a time.

Preheating isn't as critical to get as people think on this. The spindles are forged not cast.

    Preheating is important.

And they are cast. 2nd gen spindles are forged not ours.

But sounds like you managed heat fine anyways so should be fine

    Installed some fender flares today.

    1) purchased some used factory flares
    2) primed, painted and sealed them to colour match “Black sand pearl”
    3) installed them on my 2002 Tacoma

only took me 19 years to get Fender Flares, LOL

Ours are forged too, but they’re a small section area. Skipping around with a 110v welder probably isn’t going to cause heat issues, but it also isn’t going to get a full pen weld on the spindle. As @Speedytech7 likes to say, if they make you feel better…

It's less Tacoma and more mod
I also don't believe that tiny piece of 3/16 bent at a right angle is going to do fuckall if you're imparting enough force to bend a spindle.

Lol... Well, Metaltech and and Total Chaos both say they're forged.

But I'm glad that my technique meets with your approval. I was really worried.

It's not so much about keeping the spindle from bending. Its to reinforce that stupidly designed little ring that holds the UBJ... that is where you have problems with our spindles, more often than not.

Is the 3rz picky about spark plugs?

Today I replaced the coolant temp sensor and found out that's where my poor power and crap mpg was from

After seeing the kind of mpg it's capable of with it running right I'd like to optimize it even more

It's not bending the spindle those things protect against it's the ring on top that the ubj presses into that tend to snap it protects against I like to think

I'll still agree to disagree on that.

IMO, anyone who beats on their rig offroad should have cam tab gussets and spindle gussets at a minimum.

Anyways, happy 4th! No one wants to see pics of my 2nd gen, so I don't have much else to contribute at the moment. :anonymous:
