He's got a pic of the winch cradle in there. Presumably that was also fabricated by CBI. So as long as you get that from them, I guess you're golden. Though I also want to be able to put in a simple shackle receiver to use as a pull/yank point.

OK guys, here's the deal. We order receiver tubing by 20' lengths, cut them to the size we need and drill the hole for the pin. After this we test fit each one with a hitch we have here in the shop for this purpose. My other two hitches that I keep in my truck fit into anything the test piece will, as I have checked.
Therefore I thought we were good to go. We were not aware of this issue when the pieces were being built.
We contacted our steel supplier, he notified us that different mills have different specs for thier receiver tubing, and now we find out that some fit all hitches, and some don't!! Now That's Bullshit!!!
This is not an intentional way for only our products to fit the hitch, we want this to be as universal as possible.

Rest assured that we are taking care of this issue. We appreciate the feedback, and appollogize for the inconvenience.
    Thanks, Steve.

I guess I lean more to the stock look. I like to make modifications that are not obvious but then show them off. As for the plate, VA leaves me no choice.

Cool, I will subsribe.... I plan to email Nathan at CBI to get some advice. Nathan has been very helpful with scheduling and he followed up to verify that the delivery was made OK. I was impressed as I was mounting the hitch. It seemed like they thought of everything. Based on Steve's post above, they missed this one but it is still a great product. I just need to implement a work around for the light stuff (my bike rack) and make sure the heavy duty stuff (shackle receiver) fits naturally.

Hey Steve, I didn't mean to stir the bee's nest.:crapstorm: First and foremost, great product.:woot: My hope is that this thread generates awareness of the product and results in more orders. You should consider adding the hitch to your website.

It is unfortunate about the receiver tubing. Please share any workarounds that you recommend beyond what I have already posted. For my light stuff, I can certainly get by with an adaptor.

Would you be willing to fab something (2" mount to 2" receiver) but machine the inside corners of the receiver to accept my "standard stuff"? I could draw something up to get it started but you guys would make it better. I could potentially use the "adaptor" also as a bed mount (similar to what BrutalGuyRacing has) for the cradled winch when not in use. I am assuming that a single bolt through the "adaptor" / through the bed would be sufficient to hold the assembly in place in the bed (but have not made any calculations for retaining 30lb cradle with 100lb winch during heavy braking). Your recommendations are appreciated.

Hey guys I just want to add to Steve's thread with another official CBI OffRoad Fab Post!

Concerning our receiver tubing that has caused so much discussion we appreciate all of your feedback and help to bring this problem to our awareness. As each of you we are fully disappointed as the design of the front receiver hitch is to accommodate ALL 2" receiver accessories regardless of who makes them. This being said we are contacting all previous customers to provide a remedy and solution.

As of today we have procured the necessary material to make a universal receiver hitch and all CBI Offroad products will feature this new tubing. Please rest assured that we have fixed this issue as quickly as we could and that we are continuing to provide the best products and customer service we can.

If any one has any questions concerning our Hidden Front Receiver hitch please feel free to contact us at CBI OffRoad Fab and we will be glad to help you out.

Have a Merry Christmas and a great Holiday everyone!

Yes.... CBI did make the winch cradle and it fits like a glove. Now I need to buy a winch to mount in it.

To his word, Nathan called me today explaining the situation. He offered me three options to rectify the situation. All of the options were more than generous. I will continue to buy CBI products for their good quality and great customer service.:)

Curious to know why you built it to hang so low when it is clearly for off roading?

No when i built my hitch it was for a Cargo Carrier. I built it lower to keep the load low below the headlights & hood. Also this was very easy to mount up. I didn't have to take apart the whole front of the truck or trim/cut anything. I also put a set bolt on one side that I can torque down on what ever is in the hitch so it will not rattle.:) My hitch is stronger then some others with 1'' of steel between the frame rails & gives me strong anchor points with two 3/8" welded D-rings As far as the off road ability my truck is still stock so i don't need extreme clearance.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this setup, using this winch, I think:

    http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/src/m6000sdp_multimount.shtml

It's "only" a 6000lb model, which is a little light for a taco using the std 1.5 times loaded weight measure. But I'm a std cab and my "dry" weight is only 3500lbs.

The advantage here is that at 72lbs (including class 3 receiver), one guy can manhandle it into the receiver. Using a bigger winch like the XD90000i portable (104lbs) or the XRC8 mounted on a 30lb platform (94 lbs) I'm not so sure one guy (me, weighing all of a buck-sixty) can position it into place when needed.

Also, I question the 6000lb capacity seems to match up better with the ultimate capacity of the receiver into which it is mounted.

The thing about winch ratings, is that pull is based on how many layers are on the drum. You only get the full 6,000 lbs with one layer on the drum (basically meaning all your line is paid out.) When you get a few wraps of line on there, the pull drops. It shows just under 4,700 lbs with 4 wraps.

I'd say you'd be better off with an M8000 in a cradle with 80' of synthetic line and not pay much of a weight penalty over the M6000SDP. Even at 4 wraps, the M8000 is going to pull harder than the M6000SDP with one wrap.

i would also go with the m 8000 and also get yourself a snatch block........
as for the weight of the winch and cradle i have an xrc8 and a j.c. whitney cradle mabye 110# tops
but with the handles on top it makes it easy
