    I just got my first car which is also a Tacoma. But I was wondering.

    Every car I've ever driven or used has beeped or honked when you click the lock button on the keys twice. My Taco was used so is that a setting or something? Thank you!

    Mine does when I click the lock button Beeps once for lock and twice for unlocked.

    It can be turned on or off. There is a procedure in Tacomaworld do a search...

    I'm not sure if 06 had the beeper, there's no reference to it in the FSM that I can find.
    It should be right in front of the battery mounted to the radiator support if you have it, if you do make sure it's plugged in and there's a thread here on setting it up.
    Mine beeps once for lock and twice for unlock but it's a 14.

    FWIW, my 07’ doesn’t make any sounds.
    It flashes the turn signals. 1x for Lock. 2x for Unlock.

    I’ve never looked for the “beeper”. I don’t recall seeing it on my truck.
    I’ll have to take a look sometime, now I know what and where to look.

    I believe that the feature was added on later trucks. I’ve heard it was called “answer back”.
    There used to be a mod that you could add one. But it doesn’t look to be good any more.

    Personally, I don’t like the beep.
    If I ever get a new vehicle, I’d hope there is an option to turn it off.

    Welcome to the forum. Early 2nd gen models did not have the beep/lock-unlock option. That was added in later models, and like others have said, it can be turned on and off depending on the owners preference.

    I have an 08 Sport and it did not have a beep on lock/unlock. I added a Peizo buzzer under the hood. It's a mod you can do for less than $15. There's a few writeups about it, just use the search feature.

    Any chance you can post a link to the buzzer? The results I get in Tacomaworld are very old, the pictures and links don't exist anymore.
