Possible to get MTM installed aftermarket?

Due to covid and Toyota supply availability I wasn't able to get the advanced tech package. Just the tech package.

I think I'd REALLY like to get MTM and I'm wanting to get the Pro Grille anyway...

Has anyone managed to get MTM installed after the factory?

Also wish I had leather seats with cooling but beggers can't be choosers.

 

I haven't heard of anyone doing it (possibly because the parts also aren't available).
I've been looking at https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/collections/kits/products/2020-kit, which isn't the same, but might be close enough for me.

I mean, it's also technically possible to convert a 2WD Tacoma to a 4WD Tacoma.
The MTM upgrade can't be as hard as that one, but I don't really have a feel for how hard it might be.

The MTM is the one upgrade that I really wanted, but seemed like if I wanted to wait for, would be something that would prevent me from getting a truck, so it's a bit of a sore spot with me.

Even if you get all the hardware (front cam, both side mirrors, switch, etc), that is probably the easy part. The hard part would probably be the software side. Not sure how the head unit comes into play here, but I'm sure it does. Summary: expensive pain in the ass.

Useless advice - you should have just waited for the truck you really wanted (buy once, cry once). Or looked for one at dealers further away - they're out there.

Slightly less useless advice - if you're really that desperate for MTM, you're better off trading in for a truck with the Advanced Tech Package. Or, go aftermarket.

 

According to my sales guy, Toyota isn't producing vehicles with that package right now. There is a possibility he's lying.
Depending on region, I've hear that it doesn't even show up as a possibility on the Toyota site right now in some cases.

In my particular case, wifey said that she was getting me a truck for my birthday. I have X amount of time to get it, or she's picking it out.

I'm in the same boat: wanted the advanced tech package, called or emailed half of the dealerships in my state, couldn't find one on anything but a TRD Pro. Waited a few weeks and tried again with the same result. Really would've liked the bird's eye view because I'm replacing my first gen regular cab with a double cab longbed and it's going to feel like driving/parking a limousine by comparison.

I'll probably try to replicate delonix's setup, but I'd like to see a more detailed step-by-step guide before I take the plunge and I haven't been able to find one...yet. I'm also not keen on replacing the head unit on a brand new truck so I'd like to get confirmation that it can work with the OEM one first.

 

any chance youve done this? i finally got my 22 sport, but really wish i was able to get the MTM. i guess this would be the next best thing if i can get it to work!

 

Nah, haven't done it yet. I've been waiting for a more experienced electrician to come along and write a comprehensive guide before taking a drill to the mirrors on my brand new truck, lol.

I really want to drop it in without replacing my factory head unit. I know that the anytime front/rear camera is plug and play with an existing unit so I'm hoping that the feed from one of the Chinese 360 cameras will work the same way. If not, the original author of the thread that I linked (Delonix) sells a replacement with a built-in MTM system, but iirc you might lose some functionality with aftermarket head units (the built-in pitch/roll sensor comes to mind). Not sure if that's the case with delonix's setup, just a general observation.
