6x9 door speakers

I’m looking to replace my factory door speakers, so any suggestions on what I should look for?

 

I replaced mine with these. What a difference. They also have a tweeter so you don’t need to mess with that one in the door.
You will also need the adapters to fit the Tacoma. I bought everything on Amazon and it was a simple job after looking at utube videos on how to remove the door panel. If I did it all over again I would buy the same ones. All sounds are much clearer now and the stock head unit works good with these.

I did JBL GTO 939's. For any aftermarket speaker you will need the adapter bracket like these by metra

I’m personally running the Skar TX 6x9s. Clear and loud if powered properly with an amp (which all door speakers should be). I love them and they have done me well, but I’m swapping them out for some pro audio speakers to blow my ears off.

no offense to the poster above, but Rockford isn’t all that’s cracked up to be. They’re at an okay price for what they are, but you’re just buying the brand name.

 

I looked at the Skar TX6x9s but a lot of people recommended spend a little more for quality. They looked pretty cheap and the reviews said they tend to crackle after about a yr. I think the reason so many people bought the fosgates is the fact they must be a better speaker. Your better of spending a little more on quality. You can buy those Tx6x9 for 40 bucks, that was a warning flag to me.

 

I’ve read about that crackling and I think that can be attributed to running them on head unit power, improper grounding, or improper tuning. I haven’t had an issue. They’re def a budget brand, but most of the speakers out there on the market are made in the same factory in China with different specs. that’s why I’m upgrading to some deaf bonce sylvesters.

I’m not coming at Rockford, they’ve been around for a long time and the quality is good, but could be better hence all the speakers are made in China since you really can’t find any from anywhere else sadly. I’m just going off of what I’ve handled and experienced.

 

I used Kenwood KFC-690 (6x9)

 

I went with pioneerTsa692c speakers. A huge improvement over stock. Really anything you stick in there will be an improvement over the half dollar sized magnets the stock has.

 

I replaced my cheap speakers to jl audio speakers because it’s bassy and crispy sound and I don’t have to buy the amp and subwoofer

 

I'm not sure if you'll have an identical problem as I did (I have a 1st gen taco), however I'd be certain the depth of the speakers are good to go before purchasing. I ran into the issue of buying speakers that matched the XY dimensions but were far too deep and I ended up having to Dremel out a lot of plastic to get them to fit. Good luck though!

Even a cheap-o speaker will sound better than the factory speakers. Spend some extra money on sound deadening for the doors while you have the panels off too.

They will sometimes throw in any adaptors you need for free.

I pu JL CI-690's in my 4Runner and it's a huge improvement over stock.

Metra 82-8149 6" x 9"). Do you think this is going to work this time or is there a different bracket I should be aware of that I haven't Googled yet? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not the JLB speaker option.

 

Cruthfield is your friend. They have everything that you will need. Also if you're looking to upgrade the tweeters, i heard replacing them with Subaru tweeters is a good upgrade.

 

Yeah, I looked there. Thank you. I have already replaced the speakers to Sony, but the 2 different types of brackets do not fit.

Which "screw pattern" didn't work? Were you unable to screw it to the door or were you unable to screw the speaker to the adapter? In most cases you should be able to just add new holes where needed although that shouldn't be necessary. Do you have any pics of the fitment issue?

 

The holes on the bracket did not line up with the door holes. Both Tacoma's we were able to get them all to line up except the 2011 front 6X9's. Guess I will have to get those pics. Thanks.
