Just got home from a 3 hour one way towing our 2,500 lb travel trailer and thought I would give a little update. Plenty of power with the supercharger. Could do 75 mph on a really steep highway grades, stopped at that speed cause of safety (truck was still pulling). I really like having cruise control back (didn’t work with OVtune). Set at 62 mph most of the way. Drove in 4th the whole way. Did try 5th for a short time and while it seemed to work fine, I thought the rpms were a little low and the truck was running at 2-3 lbs of boost. I switched and back to 4th as it seemed “easier” on the drivetrain. Truck says 11 mpg, a couple mpg less than towing without supercharger.

With my Twin Turbo Tacoma, I could climb the local (ish) mountain up to Cloudcroft, NM in 5th gear at 2k rpm or so, recruiting a steady 1-3psi and just chugging along happily. But 4th of course was just a better overall choice regardless, just didn't have to work hard in 4th.

But yeah if I were towing? No way would I have chosen 5th going up that grade lol

had some pressure related leakage from the coolant container - filled out the on-line warranty - Ryan sent the replacement the same day. Now I just need to go screw it on. Just wish he/they would send Version 8 !

I apologize if this has already been asked in this thread... I saw a lot of talk about air intake's that are compatible with the supercharger at the beginning of the thread... I have 2 questions.

    1) Will a snorkle help with air intake for the super charger's benefit AT ELEVATION?
    2) Has anyone used the HPS Silicone intake tube with their Magnuson? Or is it not necessary? Does a bigger intake tube come with the Magnuson kit?

I ordered the Magnuson kit and the UpTop snorkle, hoping to get as much clean/fresh/cold air into the system as possible, for the best performance here in Colorado.

Hey guys you know that pain in the ass 1/8 NPT brass plug in the back of the heat exchanger that we use to hook up our boost gauge? So… Magnuson uses thread locker on this biotch from the factory. For folks looking to install this supercharger in the near future here are some tips to get it out without damaging the threads in the cast aluminum housing and the brass plug itself.

You will need to order the following:

Aluminum Alloy 90 Degree 1/8" 1/8 inch NPT Female to Male Elbow Coupler Union Hose Fitting Adapter, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q1WHY36

    PHITUODA 2pcs 3/16" Hose Barb to... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RDDFMPG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    1. Hit the outside with WD40.
    2. Look inside to find the plug hole. Put some shop towels inside and spray a small amount of WD40 in the hole. Wipe off excess.
    3. Grab 3/16 Allen wrench. Insert into plug.
    4. Take the handle off your floor jack. Place over the Allen wrench and push down counterclockwise lightly. Go slow. Remove plug.
    5. Last pic shows you why a 90 fitting with a nipple won’t work. Don’t order this piece. It won’t clear the housing when you rotate.
    6. I use Teflon PTFE tape on the threads. Never had an issue on prior builds. Insert 1/8 NPT 90 elbow. Rotate into place. Apply towel and gently snug down with pliers. Insert 3-16 barb to male 1/8 NPT into elbow. All done.

Another member @OpelGT mentioned an alternative is to hit the plug with a heat gun, soldering iron, or cigarette lighter instead of WD40.

Also for folks looking to install the supercharger on older trucks 2016-2018 or trucks with >30k miles you may want to consider swapping the intake manifold gaskets and the fuel injector rubber o rings. Part numbers below:

good tips! One more though. Heat will do more for you than WD40. Thread locker looses its holding power when hot. A few seconds with a cigarette lighter or soldering iron and it will come out easy.
I removed mine while it was installed on the truck. A heat gun, a little ratcheting Allen wrench are the trick to working in that tight space by the wire loom.

I can't speak for the snorkle benefits here (I'm in Golden) but having unrestricted air can't hurt. I have a double intake into my stock box and for sure it allows ample air when using the skinny pedal.

Not sure you will use the HPS intake tube - go back one page and look at the pic I posted (post #1191) and you will see how the Magnuson system connects to the stock parts you reuse.

DM me if you have questions. I did my entire install - not difficult if you have tools and time.

^^^ this is so true. You could also use the tip of a soldering gun on it for a few seconds. Makes the thread locker turn soft very quickly.

Looks like the Maggy kit reuses the stock intake tube to the air box. That was why I was wondering/hoping the HPS Silicone tube might provide better airflow? 12 week lead on the Maggy kit, so I guess I have some time to do more research!

connection points are the same diameter at the ends - so those would be your restriction points - not sure what having a larger diameter tube between the two points would accomplish when the tube ultimately connects to the oem. Could be some benefits I guess but likely not the bang for the buck that would make it a wow factor. ??? Keep us on status and progress. Thanks.

In theory, they say, the smoother interior surface of the HPS silicone hoses improves the air flow. And, the heat tolerance of silicone keeps the air cooler as it enters the engine. In theory.

11 HP gains, supposedly. I know a lot of haters out there gonna say its a bunch of BS. I've seen decent gains for air intake systems in high elevations like Colorado, however.

The Magnuson uses their own supplied intake tube it just re-uses the air box. Since the throttle body is moved by a couple inches most intake tubes aren’t a direct fitment.

Thats what it looked like from the pictures I see. Thanks for clarifying! I suppose you could hack the HPS tube to the right length, but I don't think I'll bother with that for starters.

If you haven’t placed the order yet might check with URD. They had some Magnuson superchargers in stock two weeks ago.

I found several shops online that had them in stock. But I am working with RSG Metalworks here in Denver for the install and potential custom tune. They prefer to order the kits since they are an authorized Maggy shop, etc. Could take up to 12 weeks, but could be here sooner. I'm not really in a hurry. Just a race between the install and when a better tune is going to be available. @MGMSangTaco is working on an improved tune, since it seems Magnuson has all but given the community the finger on taking in the shifting edits from the best community tunes (KDMax)

YotaWerx Tuning is also actively working on an alternate SC tune as well.

Shifting preferences vary from person to person, which is partially why you'll see people recommending different options. KDMax, CVC, VR, YotaWerx, etc
