Hey dudes and dudettes, the resurrection of my 2006 Access TRDSR5 continues! Thanks to crashnburn80 for advice on swapping in corrosion free 2012 wheels. Looking swell, bolted right up as you predicted! Now $2200 later and I am very pleased with the swapped out wheels, all new fluids and lubrications, differentials and transfer case flushes, adjustments and alignments, a new alternator and premium battery. Now I am looking for both door mirror covers. Both originals are cracked and one is loose and rattles around, but the mirrors themselves and motors and textured black triangular mounting brackets are all working fine. It’s just the plastic shell that encases the mirror; no electrics, no turn indicators, I’m looking for textured black left and right to match the mounting brackets and the grill.

Complete mirror assemblies that replace everything but the bracket are easy to find but overkill. Can anyone steer me to just the mirror covers, the plastic shells only? OEM or aftermarket. Looks like a torx on the underside and I can slip the cracked ones off and the new ones on myself, no?

    Always sincerely appreciated!

As far as purchasing just the mirror covers themselves, if I recall correctly only the mirror assembly is sold, although aftermarket ones aren't that expensive. Another option is scoring a set somebody is selling here over in the 2nd Gen TW Parts Marketplace (or outside of TW such as Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, etc.). Could even post a WTB thread there as some guys may have some takeoffs just laying around that they never got around to selling.

To swap mirror covers the entire assembly will need to be removed from the door. See below provided threads & video for reference:

Thanks Burrito782. I am realizing the disassembly and reassemby is sufficiently labor intensive to compel full side mirror replacement, and not just the covers or "shells". I can probably purchase replacement OEM from the local dealer, or a good aftermarket brand. Assuming price-value correlation is all over the board as often is, what is a good aftermarket brandname, in your opinion, I might consider in lieu of OEM?

You can get just the covers. Let me see if I still have the part numbers.

Thank you gotoman1969. The balance between disassembling and reassembling with new covers and just swapping out the entire mirror and bracket remains unclear. The disassembly and reassembly looks pretty fiddly while the complete swap out looks fairly straightforward. But if you find those OEM black textured cover numbers, please send them over. Might be a nice sunny Saturday project!
