    Hi All,

I have looked around and maybe missed it - so apologies in advance if there is a thread I did not see addressing just this.

I want to add a USB port closer to the driver side panel that also allows Carplay when connected - not just charging. Is this possible?

Are you wanting to keep the one in the middle and add a second one or just have the one on the driver side

Id like to have that one for a passenger (just charging if it has to be) and add one close to me for carplay. So I am assuming I could move the car play one over to me and add a charging USB?

    Thanks for the response!

Are you aware of the USB charging ports inside the center console? The passenger can plug into those easily.

Yup, just looking to add one right there for easier access while moving a usb all the way to the left close to me for charging and carplay. Appreciate it!

There are no usb ports on the back of your radio + the cable attached to your existing USB port is not your typical USB cable.
You need to upgrade your head unit that have 2 conventional USB ports unless you know how to splice cables. Also you would need a special adapter to make existing USB working.
Crutchfield has USB data ports to make it happen.

Thanks and of course this is a great option. My goal is simply to move the USB Carplay closer to me so the cable isnt hanging across the cup holders etc....It is NOT a big deal but one of those things I would like to do. Thank you!

Ok so would just moving my USB existing port of to the left work? I really just am trying to get it closer to the driver side. Thank you!

How much closer? I think there was enough slack in the wiring that it could be moved to the furthest left switch position in the same row of switches.

I suppose you can relocate the port from the center console to the left. But I don't think the cable is long enough to reach the panel on the left (based on my experience). I'm sure the soder gun will do the job.
But it is not an easy job+you will have to take the dash apart.

I appreciate the input a ton! Assuming you have gotten back there and see the cable lengths make you think its not worth it?

Def one of those "would be nice, not at all necessary things" But I like to tinker and do a few things while I wait for my new suspension and LEER topper to come in. Cheers everyone and always stoked how awesome this community is at responding. Crush it out there today!

I assume you have a factory radio. My rough estimation, the cable is about 2-2.5' +-.
Also, you can't go direct under the dash(steering wheel, pedals).
Aftermarket units have unplowed potentials, including wireless.

Plenty of us have moved the media USB port from the dash to other parts of the vehicle. (Usually into the center console) There is a cable you can order from Alibaba that will plug into the back of your head unit, and you can then connect a USB extender to it and run it anywhere you want. This will disable the USB port in the center of dash usually used for Carplay/AA/Media.

There are a few threads on it, just search for media port relocation.

I moved mine into the center console to use with an AAWireless device for wireless Android Auto.

Just incase you haven't seen it before they make wireless carplay adapters. This one works great for me. Every once in a blue moon I need to unplug it and plug it back in, but no big deal.

I also put some EZ pass velcro on the back to tuck it out of the way, but I've seen some more creative solutions on here for that.

Not sure if it's something your interested in, but I figured it could help solve your problem.

I'm actually also interested in this. I'd like to free up the switch port all together and completely relocate that port to the center console.

Did yours come with the covers over the USB ports in the center console?

The stock USB ports? Yes, those covers are stock. If you mean the one I installed for the media port relocation, I did remove the cover.
