Has anybody found a locking gas cap for the third generation Tacoma‘s that will not throw off any error codes?

A couple things. The filler neck is anti-siphon already and I think someone got their tank or filler neck drilled with a locking cap. So, it might be more trouble than it is worth? That's my outlook anyway.

I purchased the Stant from O’Rielly’s that has the embossed S stamp, the metal keys, etc. and worked for two days without issue. Today I now have the gas cap alert and engine check. Hmmm, what to do?

The other thread had the answer but in short, a STANT 10504 is the answer. The caveat is there are mostly counterfeit on the internet. It HAS TO HAVE AN EMBOSSED "S" STAMPED ON THE END OF THE HANDLE... like this:

I just bought mine at O'Reilly's and confirmed the "S" before leaving the store. It works.

FUCK! Don't tell me that! Did you go out and twist good? Not suggesting you're wimpy but my wife always wimps out when it comes to securing the fuel cap. I push down and twist to ratchet the bajeezzus out of it. The new one is firm to install.

Lol, I’ll go out and retwist it now and I’ll report back. It was working without incident for a couple of days so I’ll see.

    That was a
That was a thought I had but that's a pretty tough configuration on a 3rd Gen. I studied my door and the internals for a while to see if I could dream up a relatively easy means but drew a blank.

Possibly something like this to be placed over the OEM cap?

Perhaps a simple spring contraption to be triggered upon opening the fuel filler door.

Just wait until the wife try’s to fill it up. That’ll be the last time she takes the truck. WINNING!

I've tried 2 different types with part# 10504 and both turned on the Check Engine Light (CEL) for improper seal:

    Duralast - AutoZone $18
    CarQuest - Advance Auto $17

There isn't an O'Reilly's near me in Delaware for the Stant so I tried Napa.

Napa Part# 703-1689 was installed 2 days ago and to date has a proper seal and No CEL indicator. It was cheaper than the other 2 at $13.99.

I'm still keeping the stock non-lockable under the rear seat compartment and my gas cap key in the center console.

Yea... My stock has cap clicks once then backs off. Thing is driving me nuts. I had the dealer check it last time I was there and they said no codes no issues... It's fucken loose. Even the loaner they gave me had a normal feeling one that didn't back off after the first click.

Getting one from Napa tomorrow along with a spare belt to stash in the tool box.

I have a stant locking cap, it works fine until I park on a hill/incline. Then i get the evap code and dash lights, check engine and traction control. This happened 3 times.
I put the stock cap back on and have not had any issues since.
