So I currently have a 2000 tundra and I’m thinking of replacing it with a Tacoma. My question is, should I go with 2nd or 3rd gen? I pretty much know nothing of either generation (or tacomas in general). Thanks for the help!

2nd gen, but not a 2012. Go for 2013-2015 TRD Off Road or Sport

Whichever one you get a deal on. Both are still overpriced in the used market.

I had a 2012 and I loved it. Drove it for 8 years and had to put a wheel bearing in, that was the only “fix” I had to do. 170,000 miles and I traded for a 2020. Wish I had the 12 back to be honest.

@Kolter45 mainly the gear hunting. It downshifts WAY too much.

The 2012 tacos have problems with the secondary air pumps & will go into limp mode. I believe the only year that Toyota will fix this problem is 2012. That said it's like pulling teeth to get them to pay & fix this. I have the Uni Filter mod in my 2013.

Lot of info on here about it

I would rather have a 2012 (which I do) which got a special service campaign to replace all the parts and is covered under warranty for 12 years than the 2013-2015 which has no extra coverage. The SAIS on 2013-2015 will fail regularly as well. They use all the exact same parts and the only difference is software to run the pump on shutdown.
