Show off your dog platforms! Bonus points for Access Cab!

To make a short story long... I had been promising my old furry buddy a new truck for a few years, but unfortunately I wasn't able to make that happen before he passed late last summer. I ended up taking delivery my '23 Access Cab in November. So it was kind of bittersweet, as I had imagined us riding around together in it. But alas, it looks like we will be welcoming a new pup in the next few weeks. He's six months old, and not tiny, so I'll be looking forward to him riding along with me right away. My kids are older, and I only very rarely have someone in one of the jump seats. So I would like to build a platform that will stay in the truck probably 90% of the time, but will need to be able to be removed, just in case I do have someone back there.

I'd love to get some ideas from those of you who have built something similar. I'm pretty handy, and can generally build what I'm picturing in my head. So if you feel so inclined, I'd love to see some pictures of what you all have or how you transport your dogs.

 

Mine is pretty simple, and setup for only one half to hold my Dometic.
It could of course have been built to cover the entire area.





I set my Jackery 1000 Pro on the drivers side, and run a connection to a new 12v port in the cubby so the Dometic runs off the battery when
the truck is running, and then switches to the Jackery when turned off. Works great. The rear seat will come down and I can set containers of
food-stuffs there - coffee/ donuts/ breads/ etc.






At the end of the day I'm slinging camping gear into the bed and heading in any direction I want.

 

Love that, and it makes for a nice little storage area underneath too. Is that 1x6 that you used for the vertical part?

I actually just found this one through a Google search, very good ideas! Interesting that neither of these came up using the Tacoma World search bar.

 

I’ll be honest, I don’t even remember how I came across them when I starting building my platform. Hope they help though!

 

Definitely, I kind of had this elaborate idea in my head before I read through that, but then realized it could be so much simpler.

 

I, too, am thankful other people have made their simple builds look good

 

So the main piece is 20" wide by 30" long... 1 inch plywood.

The first (front section) right-angle is 18" long and 7" high. These are composed of 2 pieces of 1 inch screwed together and pocket screwed into the main.
Then right-angle brackets support it underneath.

The 'hump' piece is 6" long and 4.5" high.

Depending on if you keep the carpet in the back or not you might have height adjustments of 1/8 inch or so on heights.

Measure twice ( or three times ) and cut once - leave a little leeway and make your own measurments.

Be advised at 30" long you can't make 2 of these to fit side by side, you'd have to go less to get everything to fit.

The hump piece is not 'square' with the end but sets in a bit - again grab your tape measure and play around with it if you want a similar setup.

 

I didn't need to build a platform. I bought this and it fits perfectly back there and my two-year old 50lb lab mix buddy loves it just fine. Easy to take in and out and doubles as a dog bed wherever you go.

Built mine last summer, still haven’t carpeted it yet.

 

This is a full delete if you want to get a ton of room on the cheap. Fits my two 80 lb lab/pits just fine.

Used the hinges off the bottoms of the seat. You can do just the 60 side with two hinges or the 40 side with the one hinge. If you have a question feel free to ask.

 

Not too bad, I like that. The bottom is rigid enough where it’s hanging over the edge?

 

Looks great, I like the rubber mat. I’d rather not remove the jump seats, just in case someone needs to jump in back there.

 

A couple of months ago I had my dog platform out of my truck for re-carpeting. I have my Access Cab rear seats folded up and the platform sits on the storage cubbies. I made the length slightly shorter so my dog has room to jump on the floor of the truck and then step up on to the platform.

 

In my 2021 Access Cab I did the two Dewalt tool boxes (DEWALT TSTAK II Tool Box, 13 Inch, Flat Top, Holds Up To 66 lbs, Flexible Platforms for Stacking) at $20 each that are the same height and then tossed about 4 Harbor Freight packing blankets at $5 each on sale across them then a doggie hammock/seat cover thing and Tucker - the big brown dog - all 115lbs of Lab/Bully mix - rides, sleeps and really enjoys it back there. I got the toolbox idea off of here but damned if I can find that particular post again. The toolboxes are nice for also carrying well, tools and dog food, flares, jumper cables and such things as a fella and his dog might need out here on the great plains of Kansas.
We've gone on many an adventure both large and small with this setup in the last few years and look forward to many, many more.

2021 double cab.
Two big dogs- 100 lb Lab and 120 lb Great Dane.
Lined the top with rubber flooring that Menard’s sells as “gym floor”. I didn’t want to use carpet for fear of all the shed hair from the dogs being hard to clean/vacuum. Went with the rubber floor, and very glad I did as it gives my girls a lot of traction in the back when they are riding (or from other things sliding around when they are not in the truck)
