    Got a '14 TRD Sport 2wd.
For the record, rear case has a sticker with C3 052 Sky.
Wanting to change my rear diff fluid for the first time. Watched a how-to video, looked pretty straightforward and ready to go, and somebody on another forum mentioned additives in the oil and now I'm wondering if there's more to this?
Double checking if good to use Royal Purple 75w-90 Max Gear Synthetic which has the friction modifier additive, just to be sure the other forum wasn't meaning another additional additive?
Any help specific to this or any links is appreciated, or any other tips so I don't miss anything. Really don't want to mess up.

3rd thread down from the top of the 2nd gen forum.

Just buy mobile synthetic in the correct weight.

@Steelhead Bum Thanks for the links. I'm good on the process how to do a drain and refill, but mainly my issue is confusion over the rear diff oil being refilled with or without additives. Further confused because of the various packages on the Taco, and moreso because everyone has a preference.
Mobil isn't offered where I live unfortunately and have few options, getting jerks while driving so need to do this by tomorrow.
I'm specifically needing to know if the Royal Purple Max Gear with friction modifier additive is safe to use based on the case's label I provided, do I need to add another type of additive or not, and do I need to buy a different oil altogether?

My guy, it’s the first sentence of the link I attached lol. 09 and newer don’t need additional friction modifiers like the 05-08 w/ lsd. Just buy a 75-90 or 80-90 synthetic. Most synthetic gear oils nowadays contain lsd additives. Mobile and valvoline both do and I have used both in my 13 sport with no issues. Royal purple with lsd additive will work just fine if that’s what you have. It’s not going to hurt anything. Running oil without friction modifiers in mechanical limited slips will damage. 09 and newer don’t have mechanical limited slip.

LSD uses LSD oil. LSD was early TRD Sport with a red LSD sticker.

@Steelhead Bum Dude lol, I'm sorry! What got me was the first sentence conflicted with the last sentence: "...w/ the Sport model you'll need a 4oz tube of LSD additive." And I have a TRD Sport, thus the confusion!
Thanks for clearing it up further though lol.

No worries, definitely contradicting statements there.

You’ll be good with the RP you mentioned above.

Make sure to crack the fill plug loose first before removing the drain plug.

@TacoTuesday1 Early TRD, I assume, means prior to '09? Helpful to know if I ever get an older one. This is my first Taco so I literally am playing catch up with all the maintenance crap since I don't know what has or hasn't been done to it and can't quite trust what the history report says.

I used this in my most recent rear diff change. I called the dealership about it having additives and they said should be fine for open diffs but I guess I would like a better knowledge about how it doesn’t harm the diffs so I can relax about putting it in my differential and just move on.

I used red line or amsoil also... figured you change so infrequently that I would buy some really good gear oil.
