Anyone have an idea where this leak is coming from? It’s on the back side of engine on the passenger side? I’m thinking coolant bypass valve? Just want any ideas on if that’s where it’s coming from?

It's the a cross over pipe back there that starts leaking on some trucks. Very common issue.

    Welcome to TW!

is the crossover pipe related at all to the bypass valve?

I do not believe there is a valve in there. Just that the housing has a weak spot that cracks. More cases than we would typically see for a Toyota.

It was noted to be more of an issue on earlier 3rd Gens.

Do any of you know forsure if that is something covered under warranty? I call Toyota financial to ask about it and they said that a coolant leak coming from behind the engine IS covered! I just wanna know if any of you know forsure?

There have been some denials here because it was not internal to engine. That might have been for the power train or extended warranties.

If someone is telling you Yes, try to get it in an email or something. You pic should go along with that.

I’ve had 2 dealers tell me that pipe is officially part of the cooling system, and is not part of the powertrain, even though it bolts right to the engine and services only the engine

It’s covered under the factory B2B warranty or the first year of the Toyota Gold CPO warranty but is not covered by the powertrain warranty.

It appears this truck is well past the 36 month factory warranty time frame. Thus it's either an extended warranty or the power train warranty coming to the rescue. But I have my doubts about either covering this. Good luck OP!

My extended warranty covered my 2016. it was 3 months from expiring. Reading this forum i knew the extended warranty was close to expiring so i checked the coolant pipe and there it was, the dreaded pink!

Well I have bought the extended warranty I believe. The Toyota rep said I have the platinum package? So I really hope that covers this…

The platinum extended warranty is largely just like factory 36 mo B2B warranty starting when you drive it off the lot minus wear and tear items…if you have that, you won’t have a problem.

That means the coolant is working to clot the leak.
