Update. Installed Afe pro dry s filter.
*I don't intend to start an air filter vs. mpg argument*-Tank prior-21.57 Tank w/ AFE-22.23

mpg may be debatable but it definitely runs smoother and I swear it starts better as well.

I just tossed in a STP for $18. The previous filter was black with crud.

K&N. Seems to have improved mpg, but I have other mods as well. Definitely increased the sound from the engine. When it's on fast idle warming up, I can hear the the being sucked while in the cab.

My bad, I drive a first gen.
    Ended up in here somehow.

Stock TRD Filter and think I will continue. I put a KD Oil Filter on my 95' and never noticed a difference in Mpg or HP; also if it breaths better then it probably hurts more than helps your engine. Happened to read a thread from here that confirmed my thoughts that it was just mainly for looks and noise. Neither one do I need or care for.

SO Stock that comes on the TRD model of my Tacoma

Take a look at Wix. Most of the TRD items I have heard are going to outsourced manufacturers and I know Wix is top notch.

The engine I have is the 3.4L. 2001 Tacoma, so sorry I can't help you with the part number. Keep hunting though, well worth it.

You can go to the AFE website for filter info- I plan to purchase the AFE pro dry s for my 2012 and the part no. is 31-10114 for the 4.0 V6- be careful and get correct number as I almost ordered part no. 30-10114 which is the oiled one.

Amsoil for me.. too bad they discontinued for tacomas due to poor sales. reusable for 4 years or 100k. Also provides better filtration than other filter out there.

Damn took me forever to read all that on my effin iPhone..

I was hoping someone would answer before I got to the end, but, the afe pro dry is everyone just getting the direct replacement or are they fitting in that universal cone filter with the air box out??

First timer with swapping out my air intake so please forgive my ignorance. I was pretty sold on the pro dry as per the discussion but I really liked the URD TCAI too...

I went with the direct (panel type) replacement instead of the cone. Installation doesn't get any easier and one still has the option to do the deck plate mod as well.

Just installed aFe pro dry last night and love it. Gas pedal seems smoother to the touch with no stiffness now.

Not to argue with you but I disagree that it is just me. Your right in the fact that there is no "mechanical connection" but there is an effect from the injectors to the vaporization of fuel mixture. A more restrictive intake system requires more pressure on the gas pedal to engage. With the stock filter, the gas pedal had to be feathered to drop in pressure, with this new filter it is much smoother in function. It was like that on my last truck and car until I put a filter in. I know of the "placebo" effect but when you can actually feel a difference in pressure -

It is electronically controlled yes.....but, of course, the signal engages the throttle body, injectors and maf sensor all controlling the amount of AFR.

Wolfpack your gas pedal is probably pretty smooth in pressure upon applying gas - since you have a URD cai.
