OK, I've been terrible about posting after our recent trip.

I just posted this in Keith's earth thread, so here is the last night, just 4 of 600+ shots during the trip. it was a 60-miler, 6 days, 5 nights. We dropped below 9k ft. only one day.

So I was thinking of this very thread a few weeks ago on our High Sierra North Lake to South Lake backpacking trip starting near Bishop Creek, CA. It follows a section of the John Muir Trail going over thee passes at 11.5k and 12k elevation and through Evolution Basin and on the last night, Dusy Basin, just before Bishop Pass. There were a few rocks along the way.

These are a few during happy hour at Dusy Basin.
In the background is the crest: Mt. Agassiz, Mt. Winchell, Thunderbolt Peak, and North Palisade, all ~14k peaks.

Dykes on Winchell. Cool triangular faces, too.

Looks like a very beautiful area. Reminds me of the Wind River Range in WY (not my pic)

    Now I'm more :jellydance:

You really should come out to the Eastern Sierra. It's a beautiful place. The Western side's not bad either-I'm just back from a 4x4 camping trip out near Truckee/Lake Tahoe.

It is...3.5 million acres of wilderness. It was amazing just looking out and seeing mountain after mountain of nothing but trees. The smoke blocked a lot of the views but you could still get a sense of how vast this area is.

oh wow. thanks guys! will try and go to harbor freight this week. i hate that they did not even last one night. lol. we lost some parts to our other 10 man tent. so i had to get a new one. got it friday and put it up, camped in it sat and they broke. was a good time tho. 2 old army cots one of witch had a broken cross bar, 2 air mattresses. rain a bit. oh and the dog (GSD) got sprayed by a skunk 2 times in less than 5 min. thank god it was raining smell did not stay around long(or on the dog to bad)

may try and go camp agin soon. after i get some new ties. thats is the only think i hate about camping, is remembering exactly where they are and (witch i never seam to do) and walk in to them.
