But being serious, where in the seat? My passenger seat back wobbles like crazy if no one is sitting in it. I haven't had time to find out if something is loose.

I want to thank you for the time you took to address my question and I appreciate it! I will look at the clips and check the links. Is there a better forum for me to ask about four wheeling in Utah, either here on Tacoma World or another website, perhaps?

So far loud music is the interim solution. I'm going to do some research on the forums to find a solution.

I went Young Chevy yesterday to fix fan issues (ticking sounds) and they quoted me for 325. I'm upset with these guys. You shouldn't tell a customer everything is covered for three months when it is not. I've had the truck for two weeks! More to come...

 

there is a write up on here somewhere to fix the fan issue..I have taken mine to the dealer and they just spray it and say your good, a mile down the road same issue.......errrrr

Young Chevy probably has many things in the fine print that is not covered, all moving parts is probably one of the not-covered things.

 

Looks like there are a few people trying different solutions. I'm going to try the WD-40 method first proposed by headcase in that thread. There's another suggestion posted on toyota nation (see below). And last, I'll try installing new TSB blower motor resistor and pigtails proposed by gregman from TW.

I do enjoy the tacoma more than the STi, but seriously.

"I've found the reason for the ticking sound. My dealer kept saying "normal" and "there are leaves in the fan". I kept telling them otherwise until I got pissed enough to just take apart the blower fan and see where EXACTLY the sound was coming from. The sound is coming from the metal faceplace which covers the wire spool around the spindle of the fan. the faceplace must be balanced properly because it holds in place the spindle which is rotating for the fan to blow. when the faceplace is off balance by one of two screws that holds it in place, the fan ticks like a MF'er....as you balance the plate, the tick goes away and is as quiet as a mouse.

#1 I took my glove box completely off making sure to release the springy thing first on the right side towards the passenger door and then just popped her out.

#2 I then got out my trusty ratchet with a 5.5mm socket and removed 3 screws on the underside of the blower....the fan will slide out easily. leave the wires attached (be careful as the fan is still runnin' lectric)

#3 let down the door that holds the cabin filter in and remove filter. now you can reach up in there and see if any of those mysterious leaves are present. blow it out with your air compressor or just root your hand around in there to get anything out.

#4 hold the black plastic fan housing in your hand carefully and reach over and turn your a/c on the low setting (BE CAREFUL as that thing is quick to get away from you and can take a nub off pretty quickly) make sure you can hear the sound coming from the assembly in your hand. If so, move to step #5.

#5 remove the covering with a phillips screwdriver (4 screws - i think) and remove that cover to reveal a silver metal cover with TWO (2) lubed screws. THESE ARE THE SCREWS THAT MUST BE BALANCED. Take a pair of vice grips and grab the black housing with them so you can get your hands away from the moving fan and so you can hold it steady. then use your phillips screwdriver on one of the two screws and notice how you can make the sound/tick worse as you tighten one of the screws.....too tight and the fan slows down and/or TICKS, too loose and the fan slows down....(spindle getting in a bind).

There is a point where the fan will turn fastest and the sound will disappear magically. You'll see what I'm talking about once you're in there adjusting the screws to find that perfect point.

#6 re-assemble and enjoy!

sometimes it just takes getting pissed off.....damn delphi.

Why didn't they have metal stoppers under those screws or not have the spindle held still by a moveable plate......argh....

Dealership should not have committed to a verbal agreement of 'everything is covered'. There is little room for error when you state everything. But I should have known...stealerships.

 

Is anyone interested in a full set of Relentless skids? Brand new/never mounted and sitting in my garage. PM me if so. (Willing to work something out on an AR-15 trade)


Also have a bug deflector that I took off my truck when I first got it (free) to the first person who PM's me about it. Just found out I'm gonna be leaving Utah a little earlier than I expected so I'm trying to clear out some clutter in the garage. Will probably offer up more stuff too in the near future.

Nick, when are you leaving Utah? You still going to Moab in May?

 

If wheeling is your main goal I would try to look for a southern Utah jeep club. Thats going to be your best resource I think. Just google the biggest/best jeep site an I bet like TW they have a Utah or even southern Utah thread group. And I only say that because I think there is going to be a lot more serious off roaders in those groups than a place like this. Too many young poofters here that are worried about the 4X4 switch dial not having lights and what not.

Any way there are also some books on that area and lots of web sites. I would just google "southern utah 4wheeling or 4X4 or Jeeping"

Glad I got this book when it came out. Looks a little spendy now.

Not sure yet for sure but it isn't looking great. However, if I end up staying here in time than I will just have to adjust my strategy without those beefy ass skids.

 

Got that right, used to work for a multi-dealership. He didn't care much for service , just my money even though I was staff. I'd rather pay a real mechanic instead of a Technician . It's sad that Verbal promises have no meaning today, it all has to be written down and signed.
