    Hello everyone...... I have question & I know this has been brought up before. I have read the other post but still confused.

    I have a 2011 4x4, crew cab, Tacoma, bought it new. Time for 30k service. Owners manuel calls for "Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil LT 75w 85 GL-5". Does not say anything about an additive. According to my window sticker truck has "Limited Slip Differential". Emailed Mobil since I use only Mobil1 for motor oil, there reply was "we have nothing compatible". Contacted Toyota, they said to use the above noted Toyota Fluid. The I fing another Toyota fluid that makes more sense "Toyota Differential Gear Oil LX GW 75w-85" for LSD & transfer. I do all of my own work. My gut tells me to go with the Toyota stuff. But do I add an additive?

    P.S. I also have a 91, extended cab Toyota Pickup with 385K on it....lol

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

    Just use mobil 1 75-90 in it. Thats why they dont have anything compatible b/c they dont make 75-85. Most on here that run mobil 1 use 75-90. There is no Mechanical LSD's after 2009 if im not mistaken.

    80 90 or 75 90, long as it meets GL-5 specs

    Lighted 4wd dial, Sirus XM radio
    No LSD, its not a true limited slip diff. It uses electronics and braking if I remember right. Either way, you don't need addative. You can use Toyota's brand or Mobile 1. Both will work fine. I think you will find at 30K, your diff fluid is going to look pretty new.

    Folks,

    I can't THANK YOU enough. I have been beating around with Toyota & Mobil. I too thought Mobil's reply was lame. You folks actually explained it to confirm my thoughts.

    I will probably go with the Mobil since I have been using the oil for years, but going to look at Amsoil.

    There hasn't been a mechanical limited slip since the 2009 model year when 'AUTO LSD' and 'TRAC' were added to all Tacomas, keeping the mechanical differential 'open'.

    I had Jason (Speed Freek) change the fluids and he recommended changing my rear diff. to Mobil 1 75W-140, and front diff. and transfer case to
    $30 Mobil 1 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    Mobil 1 75W-90. It was at 40,000 miles... I posted about it. The rear oil had already been changed once, following contamination after a deep water crossing when the truck was just 6 months old. I have since performed the rear differential breather mod, so no more of that nonsense!
