Anybody have good advise or lessons learned for mounting a roof rack to a shell?
Not really interested in the track style...thinking maybe just 2 independent cross bars and maybe eventually mount a basket.
Interested to hear what others have used.
    Thanks.

I think on your Leer it will look pretty good, would talking with the local Leer dealer be of any help, I have an aluminum one I purchased used that has one on that I don't think looks that good, but it has come in handy a couple of times; I will climb up later & see how mine are fastened, Those Leer's are spendy,, you want to do it right the first time, good luck!!

I really don't like the looks of my "TinTop" I think it takes away from the Tacoma, but those "Leers" are nice!

I installed a Yakima rack on my Snug Top Canopy. Yakima sells a mountable clips and you drill through and bolt through. I used large washers and nylock nuts inside to bolster the flat plates, not a fender washer though. Applied marine grade silicone in the bolt holes and under the mounting plates. Ran it for 120,000 miles and no leaks. I have carried several 4x4x10' fir posts or a dozen 2x6x12's.

Used a Yakima 1A Raingutter mount and side-loaders. Takes a bit of measuring (layout with masking tape first and draw on the tape) Use of a level and long straightedge to get the install level or raked as you want it. A 4 or 6ft. ladder is handy

    I added a bolt once...
On my 2006 I put a Thule system on top. Simple low profile rails attached through the cab. Then added the feet, cross bars, and Heliport kayak racks.

Sold pickup and bought a 2014 TRD Sport. Ordering my Leer canopy today (probably the 100XR or XL). I will have the Thule rails installed by the Leer dealer. I had no issues.

By Chance do you know the part #'s for your rack? That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!

No hassle...could not find invoice but I know I used:

    Thule Permanent Base Track
    http://www.rackattack.com/thule-permanent-base-racks.asp

    Thule Load Bar
    http://www.rackattack.com/rack-search.asp?searchString=Thule+load+bar

    Thule 460 Fixed Podium
    http://www.rackattack.com/rack-search.asp?searchString=460

Thule 3101 Fit Kit (attaches the 460 podium to the track)
    http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/thule-podium-fit-kit-3101.asp

NOW...I just ordered my new Leer 100XR canopy with factory installed Thule tracks and they look different than the ones I had installed my 06'
But the dealer said the 460 podiums will fit...we'll see.

    Good luck.

If you happen to be military, promotive has Rhino Racks on there for a great price. I upgraded my light duty yakima rails to heavy duty Rhinos and now can pretty much hold whatever the fiberglass can hold and It was only like $180 with shipping and came with everything you needed.

That's the DeWalt Prorac that used to be what Leer installed on their RCC commercial caps but it has since been discontinued
