You are right to not want to use load resistor with drl led bulb since it is on for long period of time. There is a mod to either sand down the internal resistor inside the relay or to replace it with a different value relay in order to use LED. I've tried a few LEDs and I don't think any of them was as bright as the incandescent bulb. You will need an LED with CK wiring.

as I mentioned in that thread, I ended up restoring the turn signal back to normal wiring and used fog lights as my drl instead with fog light anytime mod.

I just did the install last night for the DRL OEM, but now have a few issues. My speedometer doesn't work, my ABS and Emergency Brake lights are on, and my gas gauge is fluctuating. What could I have done wrong for those to be wrong?

    Thanks for the great write-up!

Just did the install tonight. The toughest part was getting that gray plug out, but otherwise very simple, especially for a novice! Thanks for the instructions.

I know this post may be old (sorry, new to the site) but wondering where the write up is to cut the wire and add the switch? Cant seem to find it. A link would be greatly appreciated.

Hey fellas just bought this for my 07 sport. Are any of you having problems with the lenses melting?

Just asking so I can add a switch, so I can turn em on and off when ever I please.

Sorry to bring up an old post. For those that have done this mod, what happens to the hazards (DRL) after the mod is done and you turn your light switch from off to the middle (parking light) setting? Do the hazards turn off and defer to the parking light like they do for the headlight or do the hazards only turn off when the light switch is turned all the way to the headlight setting?

Not sure if I'm explaining it the way I'm thinking it.

I did this install on my '09 Taco six years ago. I have about 40k miles on it. I just noticed on each light a brown spot and cracking on my DRL lenses. I did a search and found threads on melting DRLs. I also found out that these are replaceable under a Warranty Enhancement Program but I don't know if mine are covered since they did not come installed on the vehicle. I was curious if anyone who has done the install from this thread has tried getting them replaced by Toyota?

Did you ever follow up on this? I am hesitant to do the mod as I've seen the same.

Yes I did. I took it to the dealer and he saw the melted DRL's. He wrote the VIN # went to his console and input all of the data. He said he would give me a call when the parts were in. I asked if this was covered under the Warranty Enhancement Program and he said yes. About a week later he called that the parts were in. They were installed and look great. Didn't cost me a cent. There were no questions about me installing DRL's. I am guessing if the vehicle has DRL's and is a model year listed and shows damage they will replace them. If you vehicle does not show damage they will not change the lights.

Here is another thread with some good info on DRL meltdowns. Also in this thread there might be mention of a different bulb that can be used that will not burn the plastic lenses. It might be something like a 3157 ck.

Will an LED bulb keep it from melting?
